Learning outcome targets

The degree in Physics aims to provide students with a high-level experimental and theoretical scientific training based on the broad spectrum of research topics in Physics available at the Université of Paris-Saclay and connected with the current challenges in research and development.
The variety of educational approaches (conceptual or application-oriented, offering the possibility of workplace experience in a laboratory or in a company, and aiming at a professional integration Bac+
5 or Bac + 8) is suitable for many different students and offers many possibilities for future pathways and career opportunities.
Some of the skills acquired by the students are specifically mentioned in UE listings: languages, IT and project management. Many others will be acquired in an inter-disciplinary manner within the UE or during other stages of the M1/M2 years, such as traineeship research. These inter-disciplinary skills which are essential for best integration into the workplace are: scientific rigour; physical sense (identifying key parameters, understanding of the phenomena at stake); good ability to analyse situations; good organisational skills; initiative, open-mindedness, curiosity; ability to work in a group; ease in oral presentations; in computing, adaptability to new tools, codes, algorithms and languages.
Tutorial exercises or practical work notes will be written to develop the following points: writing skills, ability to analyse increasingly complex situations, prioritisation of information, transfer of learning to new contexts, modelling by combining a numerical and analytical approach, elaboration of experimental protocols.
Students are made aware of the importance of highlighting these skills in their CVs and in their recruitment interviews.

Transfer paths

Selon des parcours M1, le recrutement local se fait plutôt en licence de l'Ecole Universitaire de 1er cycle Paris Saclay ou bien dans les Doubles Licences de l'Université Paris Saclay ou de Doubles Diplômes L3 + Diplôme d'établissements ENS Paris Saclay, Institut d'Optique Graduate School, Magistère de Physique d'Orsay. Tous les étudiants venant de L3 Paris Saclay ou d'autres L3 en France ou à l'étranger ont la possibilité de faire leurs preuves pendant l'année M1 sans aucune restriction à priori sur les finalités M2 accessibles. Ce mode d'organisation correspond à des passerelles en fin de M1 entre tous les parcours. Tout étudiant admis au M1 aura une possibilité de poursuite du Master dans un M2 de la mention.
