M1 Anglophone and Hispanic Cultural Studies

Présentation
Objectives

The graduate will have a solid general knowledge of the English- and Spanish-speaking cultural areas.

1) The graduate is proficient in two foreign languages, the first with a high level of fluency (C2) and the second with a good level of fluency (B2-C1).
2) The graduate is able to conduct an analysis of tangible or intangible, visual or written cultural documents.
3) The graduate can use tools required for scientific research (libraries, specialised bibliographies, data banks, reviews, specialised websitess).
4) The graduate can design and lead a research project and present written results that meet international scientific standards for an article or a dissertation.
5) The graduate is able to present and explain orally, in French and in two foreign languages, the results of a research project.
6) The graduate knows how to present research results compellingly – in French and in two foreign languages – in different forms for different audiences (creation of a web page or a Wikipedia page, concept notes, a blog post, oral presentation with PowerPoint, scientific article, media article).
7) The graduate is able to use his or her intercultural knowledge and skills to take a wide view and demonstrate an ability to adapt.
8) The graduate can take initiatives and work independently.
9) The graduate can work in or with international teams, identify and manage cultural differences. The graduate can work in a team (as fostered in the programme through individual and group work and collective projects), create and lead cultural mediation projects, train through research.
10) The graduate is an expert in at least in two topic fields of disciplinary or multidisciplinary research: Transatlantic Traffic, Tangible or Intangible Material and Immaterial Heritage, Memory and History, Visual Cultures, Books and Materiality of Texts, Interculturality. These topic fields reflect the axes of the Graduate School of Heritage Science and Humanities and the research axes of the two main labs, founding members of LabEx Patrima: CHCSC (Centre for the Cultural History of Contemporary Societies, EA 2448) and DYPAC (Heritage and Cultural Dynamics, EA 2449).
11) The graduate can consider going on to pursue a PhD.

Course Prerequisites
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish (Minimum Level C1 for LV1 and B2 (C1 recommended) for LV2)
  • Holder of an undergraduate degree in Letters and Human Sciences and more particularly in Foreign Languages, Literatures and Civilizations and regional, in European and International Studies, in Humanities, in applied foreign languages, in Visual Arts, in Letters and Arts.
  • Holder of an undergraduate degree in Social Sciences with in-depth knowledge of the cultures of English-speaking and/or Spanish-speaking countries
  • Research project in cultural or heritage studies of the English-speaking and/or Spanish-speaking worlds.
Skills
  • Scientific skills: identify documentary resources related to a research object; analyse a research object; formulate research problems; write a research thesis in French, English or Spanish.

  • Professional skills: manage various sources in at least three languages; analyse and problematise a research object and, more broadly, a complex subject; understand the phases for setting up a research project; communicate in three languages, both in writing and orally, on a subject and the research project it concerns; work independently and in a team; have in-depth knowledge of cultural and heritage issues in the English-speaking and Spanish-speaking worlds.

  • Language and communication skills: fluency in English and Spanish; write a research thesis in French, English or Spanish; translate scientific texts (FR-ES-EN); work in English and Spanish in a professional research and research commercialisation setting; operate in a multicultural work environmen

  • Transversal skills: independently and creatively using digital tools for research and publishing; dissemination of research.

Post-graduate profile

Graduates can embark on various research careers in humanities in general, and more specifically those related to the field of cultural studies and international heritage. Graduates working in either the public or private sectors have the capacity to manage complex projects (independently and/or as a team) that involve dealing with a variety of sources in three language; to confidently interact in a multicultural and international context, in matters of communication, writing and analyses; to act based to a wide understanding of relevant issues, using knowledge of the cultural areas that correspond to the two languages (English, Spanish).

Career prospects

Graduates can target various careers in and around humanities research: research, research support and commercialisation of research, as well as publishing, documentation, multimedia, HR, communications, supervision, and any management jobs that require qualities of international adaptability and initiative, in public bodies and institutions, or in companies, associations and international organisations.
The programme prepares graduates for careers in education (secondary or tertiary) and training (competitive recruitment exams, company training, etc.)
Graduates who wish to pursue a career in Humanities and Social Sciences research may go on to doctoral studies at Paris Saclay SHS Doctoral School.

Programme

L'EF se compose de trois UE définies par Compétences : Compétences Linguistiques ; Méthodologie et outils de la recherche ; Pratique de la recherche fondamentale.
Dans chacune de ces trois UE, il y a des éléments constitutifs : modules (de tronc commun à la Mention), séminaires de recherche fondamentale (ECTS) de tronc commun de parcours, modules et séminaires de recherche fondamentale obligatoires dans le parcours, modules et séminaires de recherche fondamentale au choix entre plusieurs parcours de la mention.
Il est à noter que tous les séminaires de recherche fondamentale de l'UE3 sont mutualisé M1 M2 à l'intérieur du parcours.

Comme en S1, à l'intérieur de chacun de ces groupes, il y a des modules de tronc commun, des séminaires obligatoires et des séminaires de recherche fondamentale au choix afin que l'étudiant puisse choisir le contenu de sa formation en fonction de ses objectifs académiques et/ou professionnels (disciplinaire ou bi-disciplinaire/ choix d'une ou de plusieurs thématiques dans le cadre de la GS Humanités-Sciences du Patrimoine).
