Sustainable Development Weeks 2023 – 18 September – 9 October

As part of the European Sustainable Development Weeks (ESDW), Université Paris-Saclay is organising its own sustainable development weeks across its campuses, from 19 September to 9 October 2023.

These weeks are the opportunity to bring students, staff and wider society together and discuss issues related to sustainable development. Once again, this year, a range of visits, meetings and workshops have been planned to raise awareness about sustainable development and take action.

 

The programme

Transport Day – The Mobility Service at Université Paris-Saclay

  • 21 September: transport day in front of CentraleSupélec, organised by the Mobility service at Université Paris-Saclay and the Department for Work Environments.

12pm- 3.30pm: presentation of transport services (RATP and RATP Cap Île-de-France, Autocars Dominique, Société du Grand Paris - Line 18, Île-de-France Mobilités, Établissement Public d'Aménagement Paris-Saclay, Collectif Vélo Massy-CPS (Paris-Saclay local authority), Mieux se déplacer à Bicyclette, Recyclerie sportive, Park'in Saclay, Zenbus, Two Roule (electric scooter prevention), T12 via Transkeo.

2pm-6pm: Repair workshop in collaboration with the Recycled Sports Equipment Shop (Recyclerie sportive) and Bicycode registration and engraving service. Bicycle registration costs 10€. ID and an invoice or receipt of proof of purchase of the bicycle will be required to register and engrave the bicycle.

World CleanUp Day - Polytech Paris-Saclay

  • 16 September 2pm – 5.30pm: Polytech Paris-Saclay is organising its 6th edition of World CleanUp Day. Participants will be collecting waste and rubbish from across campus and local surroundings. Meeting point in front of Building 620 - rue Louis de Broglie at 2pm. The event will be followed by a moment of fun for participants. 

 Sustainable Development meetings

  • 5 October 2pm-3.30pm: “Research: planetary boundaries as a horizon” – conference with CentraleSupélec. Free registration.
  • 11 October afternoon: a citizen’s workshop at CentraleSupélec (Gif-sur-Yvette) on “Sobriety and sovereignty: one war, two sides, which battle plan?” A report will be sent to the UN by the organisers of the event. Open to students and staff. Free registration.

3.30pm – 5pm: “Thinking together about green planning”, free citizen’s workshop, registration required.
5.30pm-7pm: "How can we become citizens of the planet?”, free public conference, registration required.

  • 21 September at 1.45pm: Ethnobotany and collection I. – Meeting point at the entrance to building 302
  • 28 September at 1.45pm: Bark and recognising plants - Meeting point at the entrance to building 302
  • 5 October at 1.45pm: Ethnobotany and collection II – Meeting point at building 306 (pond)
  • 7 October (evening): Autumn sounds, Noct'en Nat', discovering nocturnal wildlife
  • 12 October at 1.45pm: Fragrant plants - Meeting point at the entrance to building 302

Conferences, workshops

  • Friday 29 September afternoon: Climate rentrée at the Faculty of Medicine at Kremlin-Bicêtre

1.30pm – 5pm: The "Fresques du Climat" are organised in the form of quizzes on topics related to the green transition and sustainable development. Open to students, registration required. Where? 63 rue Gabriel Péri, Le Kremlin-Bicêtre.

  • Monday 2 October:

12pm - 2pm:

A workshop will be held by Artisans du Monde to discuss agricultural transitions and potential action plans to secure a future for our plates. Where? The Versailles University Library. Campus des Sciences, 45 avenue des États-Unis, 78000 Versailles

A "discovery activity" will be held by the Association of Organic Farmers in Île-de-France as well as a workshop on how to read and understand food labels. Where? Versailles Faculty of Science. 45 avenue des États-Unis, 78035 Versailles cedex.

A workshop will be organised by the association, Terre et Cité, on short food supply chains and farming, with a sampling of local organic bread from the Vandame farm bakery. Where? Versailles Faculty of Science. 45 avenue des États-Unis, 78035 Versailles cedex.

A workshop will be organised by the association, HopHopFood, on food wastage. The purpose will be to explore, via fun activities, solutions for food wastage with a social and solidarity approach (application for food donations). Where?   • Tuesday 3 October:

12pm-2pm:

An educational workshop and tasting session of produce from the Plateau de Saclay will be organised by the association, Icare. Where? The Guyancourt student centre (MDE), 1 allée de l'astronomie, 78280 Guyancourt.

An activity will be organised by the association, Fantastiko on a stand (drawing, deconstructing a meal, bingo, seeds) to understand sustainable food.

Workshops will be held by the association, Artisans du Monde to discuss agricultural transitions and potential action plans to secure sustainable future for farming and food. Where? The Guyancourt student centre (MDE)

  • Wednesday 4 October:

12pm-2pm:
Workshops will be held by the association, Artisans du Monde to discuss agricultural transitions and potential action plans to secure a future for our plates. Where? Vélizy-Rambouillet University Technical Institute (Rambouillet campus). 19 allée des Vignes, 78120 Rambouillet.

An educational workshop with the communal garden at the Observatoire de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (OVSQ). Fabienne and Sylvie from the association, Sème Qui Peut, will explain the organisation, objectives, interest and sustainability of communal gardens. Where?   • Thursday 5 October:

12pm-2pm:

Workshops will be held by the association, Artisans du Monde to discuss agricultural transitions and potential action plans to secure a future for our plates. Where? UVSQ Vauban building. 47 boulevard Vauban, 78280 Guyancourt.

A workshop will be organised by the association, Terre et Cité, on short food supply chains and farming, with a sampling of local organic bread from the Vandame farm bakery. Where? UVSQ Vauban building. 47 boulevard Vauban, 78280 Guyancourt.

An educational workshop and tasting session of local produce will be organised by l’Alchimiste, a syrup maker of handcrafted syrups in the Vallée de Chevreuse. L’Alchimiste will present samples of its handcrafted syrups, made using sustainable methods and the most often possible, with local producers. It will be an opportunity to discuss about short food supply chains, respecting the seasonal cycle, fresh produce vs flavours, etc. Where? An educational workshop on beekeeping, led by Alban Augé from Ma ruche à la Maison, beekeeper since 2011 and honey producer at OVSQ since 2013. Where? UVSQ Vauban building. 47 boulevard Vauban, 78280 Guyancourt.

A creative workshop will be organised by the association, Fantastiko, (making a hedgehog/wheat wreath/a mandala with natural materials). Where? UVSQ Vauban building. 47 boulevard Vauban, 78280 Guyancourt.

  • Friday 6 October:

12pm-2pm: Conference led by Frédéric Wallet, economist and researcher at INRAE, who will provide an analysis of food distribution channels and their vulnerability. Where? OVSQ Guyancourt. 11 boulevard d'Alembert, 78280 Guyancourt.
