On Wednesday 15 February 2023, the members of the Faculty of Medicine’s board unanimously voted to appoint Professor Marc Humbert as the faculty’s new Dean. His election follows the appointment of the faculty’s former Dean, Professor Didier Samuel, as Chairman and CEO of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm) on 1 February 2023.

A Professor in Pneumology at Université Paris-Saclay, Marc Humbert is Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension: Physiopathology and Therapeutic Innovation Laboratory (Université Paris-Saclay/Inserm), Head of the Pneumology and Intensive Respiratory Care department at the AP-HP Bicêtre hospital, and former President of the European Respiratory Society.

Marc Humbert is involved in the teaching of several university degrees and Master’s programmes. He has been and remains strongly committed to the university’s policies through his terms as Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Medicine since 2008, a member of the university’s governing board since 2020 and Deputy Director for Research at the Graduate School for Health and Drugs Sciences.

Prof Humbert’s candidacy as Dean of the Paris-Saclay Faculty of Medicine forms part of the operational continuity led by Prof Samuel within the faculty’s board. Prof Humbert intends to pursue the development of the Faculty of Medicine within Université Paris-Saclay, strengthen its presence in its local area, and assert its status and renown internationally. He is particularly sensitive to student wellbeing, and is committed to supporting the national reforms in medical training, alongside the changes currently being made to the teaching of paramedical programmes in universities, and the development of continuing education.
