The Master in Economics provides an advanced training in economics to students who want to become professional economists working in government, central banking, international organizations, consulting, finance or in academic research.

Population: students of the five institutions involved in the Master in Economics as well as external students with a BA in economics, social science or mathematics (3-year Bachelor degree or equivalent).
Prerequisite: a solid background in Mathematics is needed. The program is entirely taught in English, speaking French is not a prerequisite.
Research: the Master in Economics trains students to have a sound expertise in economics. The program heavily relies on advanced quantitative methods for both theoretical and empirical analysis. In the first year, students learn the main tools used in economics and their most important applications.
During the second year, students specialize within subfields of economics (finance, games and decision theory, industrial economics, macroeconomics, international economics, public economics, labor economics, sustainable development, and econometrics). By the end of that year, they should be familiar with the research frontier within their main area of specialization.
Social partnerships: the Master in Economics will benefit from partnerships of the institutions with the private sector: - Chair for Sustainable Development with EDF in Ecole Polytechnique, - Chair "QuantValley" with UBS and GFI Securities in ENSAE, - Chair for Sustainable Finance and Responsible Investment in Ecole Polytechnique, in partnership with several financial companies, - Chair "Health" with MGEN in ENSAE, - Chair "Secure Careers" involving AFPA, Alpha Groupe, DARES, Pôle Emploi and UNEDIC in ENSAE, - Chair "Energy and Finance" with Deloitte and Société Générale in HEC, - Chair "Decision Science" with AXA in HEC, - European chair "Management of Intangibles" in University Paris-Sud, - etc.

Objectifs Pédagogiques
The Master in Economics is strongly oriented towards research in economics, at the highest international level. The objective is to offer the best possible formation to students that are willing to a do a PhD in Economics. The teaching load has been defined in a way that best exploits the strength of the different partners at University Paris-Saclay. The quantitative component is important with various courses in econometrics or applied statistics. The second year offers courses in several fields that correspond to the strength of the researchers involved (decision science, finance, industrial economics, sustainable development, international economics, economics of public policies and institutions, etc). The internship at the end of the first year is meant to create a link with the private sector and public institutions. The Master in Economics is also likely to allow for interactions with other disciplines in University Paris-Saclay (e.g. applied mathematics and social sciences).
Débouchés
We expect more than fifty percent of the students to pursue with a PhD in Economics and engage in an academic career, join the public administration or an international organization or integer the private sector. Other possible job prospects include careers with a quantitative component, either in the financial or the manufacturing sector.
Lieux d'enseignement
The first year courses are located in Ecole Polytechnique. The second year courses will be held in ENSAE or in HEC.
