PCMath receives the CNRS Crystal Medal 2024

The Plan de Conservation Partagée des Périodiques Imprimés en Mathématiques (PCMath) celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2023. The result of an initiative by Insmi and set up by the Réseau National des Bibliothèques de Mathématiques (RNBM) for the French mathematical community, PCMath was awarded the CNRS Crystal Medal in 2024. Nathalie Granottier, coordinator of the PCMath Technical Committee, looks back at the main advances and challenges of the Plan since its inception.

Fields Medals 2022

The Fields Medal winners were announced at a ceremony in Helsinki during the International Congress of Mathematicians:

  • Congratulations to Maryna Viazovska, professor of mathematics in Switzerland at the Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne (EPFL), who is the second woman in history to receive this distinction.
  • Congratulations to Hugo Duminil-Copin, a tenured professor at IHES since 2016. His work focuses on the mathematical branch of statistical physics.

Information about theses in mathematics

The thesis defense notices and the thesis proposals of the PhD students are gathered on ADUM:

Mentoring program WOMEN & SCIENCE

The objective of this program is to support women doctoral students ("mentees") in an important period of career building by giving them access to a "mentor" (experienced professionals, women or men, working in the public or private sector), to attend professional development workshops, and to be part of a community of young women scientists sharing similar concerns.

This program is entirely free of charge: no financial participation is required from mentees, and mentors do not receive any compensation. It is based on a reciprocal, voluntary and voluntary commitment.

The Academic Writing Center

The Academic Writing Center provides the scientific community of Univeristé Paris-Saclay with an in-house proofreading and coaching service for academic publications. Individual consultations are available for:
- Article reviews
- Teacher development consultations (course design & delivery in English)
- Professional portfolios (CVs, LinkedIn profiles)
- Entrepreneurial packages in English (pitches, website proofing)

FMJH International cooperation in Mathematics

The FMJH collaborates or has collaborated on projects with China, Brazil, Russia, Canada, Romania, Tunisia, Palestine, Ivory Coast, Vietnam and Cuba.

Current international agreements :

  • Agreement with Canada: FMJH and the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences have an agreement to jointly support exchanges of PhD students and visits of junior and senior researchers.
  • Sino-French Research Program: "Research in Pair Program" and "Intensive Workshop Program for Young Researchers".
  • Franco-Brazilian Network: "Bilateral Mobility" and "Intensive Workshop for Young Researchers".
  • Gabriel Lamé Chair in Moscow: each year, a French mathematician pays a 3 months visit to Saint Petersburg, gives a course, runs a seminar, and organizes a conference.
