A conference in ecology and evolution (in 2023)

Following the creation of the University of Paris-Saclay in 2020, research units will move to the Saclay plateau, including 3 within the Institute of Diversity, Ecology and Evolution of Life (IDEEV), which will make it one of the largest national centers in Ecology and Evolution.

This Institute of Diversity, Ecology and Evolution of Life has contributed to the establishment of a new Master 2 involving 5 institutions including the University of Paris-Saclay. This master is entitled "Evolution of Genomes, Populations and Species: Data and Models" (EvoGEM for short). At the beginning of the academic year 2022, it will welcome students from Biology, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science with a resolutely interdisciplinary orientation. (The creation of this master's degree is based on the Interdisciplinary Approach to Molecular Evolution research group). It will train students to understand evolutionary processes that take place on short or long time scales, in interaction with ecological processes.

These processes are essential for understanding how current global changes may impact biodiversity, both wild and cultivated. Beyond the concepts of evolutionary biology, modeling and inferences made possible by genomic data allow the development of diagnostic tools for population status and population management methods. An important challenge is to arrive at predictions and to characterize their degree of reliability.

To discuss these issues, and to affirm the central role that the Institute of Life Diversity, Ecology and Evolution and the EvoGEM master's degree aim to take on the local, national and international scene, researchers propose (i) to organize a conference bringing together students and researchers from different disciplines on the site; (ii) to bring in speakers chosen by IDEEV students who will organize their visit - seminars and interventions IDEEV/EvoGEM, and (iii) to contribute to a modest communication budget for the EvoGEM master (website design). This 2022-2023 project is led by Maud Tenaillon (GQE-Le Moulon lab), Arnaud Le Rouzic (EGCE lab) and Anne Genissel (BIOGER lab).
