Skills

The competencies acquired on completion of the curriculum include the capacity to: Analyse, model, quantify and economically evaluate transport and mobility projects and policies, incorporating energy and environmental transition issues.

Objectives

This programme is run jointly by CentraleSupélec for Université Paris-Saclay and École des Ponts (co-accredited institution). It benefits from teaching support from the IFP School (co-accredited institution). This course has several objectives: • In the transport sector, the ongoing revolution requires executives trained in economic aspects, and above all executives with dual competencies in engineering and economics. • Many 1st year Master's students, as well as engineering students from partner schools (CentraleSupélec, Ecole des Ponts ParisTech), are looking to learn more about sustainable transport and smart mobility. • Implementing the ecological transition in transport and mobility requires advanced technical competencies in logistics, capping of peaks and smart energy management, which all demand a high level of qualification in quantitative fields. The challenge of decarbonising the transport sector, which is still extremely dependent on oil, requires both engineering and economic competencies, combined with the conceivable options to bring about this transition. But it also requires in-depth empirical knowledge of the sector, a global vision of life cycle analyses and other eco-balances, including their indirect and global consequences, as well as competencies in other areas of the economy (territorial conflict management, negotiation, etc.). However, the wide range of competencies is a defining feature of the track. The primary objective of this course is to offer a curriculum in all aspects of economic modelling in the fields of transport and mobility, as well as more global, societal, climate and natural resource (biodiversity) issues through economic aspects, with an analytical and forward-looking dimension. Graduates must have the skills to develop strategies to address challenges related to mobility, energy, land use planning, and the environment— in particular with regard to climate change, land development, water and air pollution, and the transition to a carbon-free world. They must be able to integrate these strategies into their production, services, consulting and finance professions. They also need to have the scientific knowledge that will enable the most motivated among them to pursue careers in both private and public research. Fundamental research-oriented courses will provide the conceptual and theoretical elements required to achieve these objectives. Thematic courses focusing on practical issues, and how they are managed, in various sectors (new energies, smart mobility, etc.) enable students to enter different professional environments with the necessary expertise to perform a management function.
