Did you know that healthcare systems account for only about 20% of our overall health? For more than 15 years, the Master’s program Anthropo-SSEnTS has been exploring the remaining 80% — everything that, depending on living environments and territories, shapes health, well-being, and the ability to inhabit a changing world.
This program is mainly taught in French language.
This Master’s program focuses on the communities around the world that face health, climate, environmental, social, or cultural threats—threats that undermine the very possibility of inhabiting living places that sustain fulfilling lives. In response, the program seeks to foster the concrete implementation of an ethic of care: care for territories, for living beings, and for others—human and non-human alike. Grounded in action, this Master’s program enables graduates to engage meaningfully in the field, acting with respect for the Other, both present and future.
We offer two complementary pathways in response to the challenges of the Anthropocene: one centered on the analysis of risks, and the other on the study of solidarities on a shared planet.
Each track combines theory and practice through an internship, a research thesis, and group-based applied projects.

Objectives
This Master’s program (M2), established more than ten years ago around the study of the relationships between health and environment, has undergone regular updates — the most recent being a major overhaul from which students now benefit. At its core lies the study of our relationships to our living environment and the many threats to what makes it habitable. These issues call for an interdisciplinary approach that enables a deeper understanding of the multiple dimensions of complex problems. Firmly oriented toward communities, their challenges, and their aspirations, the Master’s program also prioritizes training students in approaches that recognize and value citizen knowledge and expectations.
The objectives of the program are therefore multiple:
- To train interdisciplinary experts capable of analyzing, anticipating, and generating concrete solutions to the major challenges of sustainability, by integrating environmental, social, economic, and health dimensions.
- To develop a systemic understanding of the interactions between natural ecosystems, human societies, and the ecological and social challenges of the 21st century.
- To promote an inclusive and equitable approach, aimed at reducing inequalities and fostering well-being while supporting the transition toward sustainable ways of living.
- To cultivate reflective capacities and ethical reasoning when facing issues that concern not only human groups but also other animals and their habitats.
- To enable students to deepen their knowledge in their primary discipline, engage in dialogue with other fields, and generate new research perspectives on contemporary environmental disruptions.
- To connect these forms of knowledge with the expertise of multiple stakeholders in order to co-construct and implement realistic and innovative solutions for sustainability transformations in the field.
