Science de la durabilité
The various crises we are currently experiencing call for a profound transformation in the way we live on our planet and in the way we organize society. The Sustainability Sciences program offers graduates the conceptual and methodological skills they need to support and assist public and private organizations seeking to address the consequences of global changes, whether environmental, economic, social, political, or other. Its stance is resolutely interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary.
Organized around a core curriculum spread over four semesters, the Sustainability Sciences program at Paris-Saclay University consists of 10 courses. These include two integrated M1+M2 programs (Corporate Social Responsibility and the Environment, Sustainable Supply Chain), two M1 programs (Transition to Sustainability and Sustainable Development) leading to five M2 degrees for the first (Climate Change Adaptation, Health, Environment and Sustainable Land Use Science, Arctic Studies (in English), Sustainable Mobility Transition and Society) and two M2 modules for the second (Sustainable Agricultural Development and International Public Action: Governance, Projects, Intervention). These modules contribute to three thematic areas of the Graduate School: geosciences, climate, environment, and planet.

Learning outcome targets
The integrated (M1+M2) programs and the various tracks of the Sustainability Sciences program at Paris Saclay University all pursue the general objective of providing graduates with the conceptual and methodological skills to support and assist public or private organizations seeking to address the consequences of global changes, particularly environmental, climatic, social, and health-related changes, and to imagine transformations towards greater sustainability.
The ethical and epistemic stance adopted is resolutely transdisciplinary: the emphasis is therefore placed on
• the mobilization of epistemes and ethics associated with the diversity of ways of living on our planet;
• pragmatism embedded in the professional world and enabling transformative action towards greater sustainability.
Each course or training element breaks down these objectives and approach in order to meet the needs of society, including the need to develop cutting-edge research in this field. These breakdowns take the following form:
M1 Transition to Sustainability:
The M1 “Transition to Sustainability” trains students in solid interdisciplinary approaches, with a view to integrating one of the five more thematic M2 programs in the Sustainability Sciences program. Bridges to other M2 programs are possible.
M1 Sustainable Development:
Training in the analysis of environmental issues using social science tools, with a focus on economics. The M1 prepares students for M2 programs emphasizing the international dimensions of sustainability.
M2 Science of Health, Environment, and Sustainable Territories
Explore the conditions for well-being, taking into account the diversity of experiences. Interdisciplinary program combining life sciences and social sciences and humanities, with two areas of focus: territorial policies and end-of-life situations.
M2 Sustainable Agricultural Development
Train specialists in sustainable agricultural issues, drawing on the social sciences. The M2 program approaches agriculture as an economic and practical sector with strong links to the environment, with an international outlook and public or private career opportunities.
M2 Adaptation to Climate Change
Train students in research and public or private action on ecological and social transformation, with a focus on adaptation issues. The master's program is also aimed at professionals who wish to strengthen their skills in these major issues.
M2 International Public Action: Governance, Projects, Intervention
Train specialists in the governance of multi-stakeholder sustainability projects through research and internships. Prepare students for positions as NGO project managers, interministerial coordinators, or evaluation experts in transnational contexts.
M2 Sustainable Mobility, Transition and Society
Train for positions related to transition and sustainable mobility: project manager or researcher (mobility, CSR, ecomobility, etc.) in the public or private sector or in research (NGOs, local authorities, consultancies, companies; PhD also possible).
M2 Arctic Studies
Program in English. The M2 Arctic Studies program trains students in research (social and human sciences, environmental sciences) and professions that require expertise in the major contemporary issues facing the Arctic world.
Integrated M1+M2 program in Corporate Social Responsibility and the Environment
The objective of the CSR program is to enable graduates to work in various sectors (companies, local authorities, NGOs, etc.) as CSR, quality, sustainable development, QSE, environment officers, or in social and solidarity-based entrepreneurship.
Integrated M1+M2 Sustainable Supply Chain program
Training in sustainable management of logistics flows and projects (supply chain, e-procurement, circular economy), inter-company coordination, and Lean Six Sigma certification, with a focus on environmental performance.
Target audience
The interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and sustainability-focused nature of the program means that undergraduate students from any discipline can apply for the M1. However, applicants will be required to demonstrate both a solid disciplinary foundation and a thoughtful openness to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches, as well as a commitment to the issues specific to the program. This means that when applying, students' CVs and cover letters must demonstrate an appetite for inter- and/or transdisciplinarity: either through a clearly expressed and reasoned desire to pursue this direction, or through experience (involvement in associations, internships, professional experience, etc.). Emphasis is placed on the complementarity of the international, regional, and local dimensions of the program (e.g., recruitment of international candidates and recruitment of French candidates with international experience) and the importance of an interest in addressing sustainability challenges at different scales.
