The Master’s program in Corporate Social Responsibility and Environment (RSEE) is a work-study program (apprenticeship or professional training contract) designed to train future professionals in Corporate or Organizational Social Responsibility (CSR/OSR). The program combines theoretical courses rooted in social and sustainability sciences with more practice-oriented training.

The current context of climate, environmental, and social crises calls for the training of students as future agents of change within public and private organizations. The goal of the RSEE program is to provide, over two years, a comprehensive education in Corporate aor Organizational Social Responsibility (CSR/OSR) through an interdisciplinary approach that combines academic theory with practical tools and methods.

The M2 RSEE apprenticeship track is open to graduates of the M1 RSEE as well as to students from other backgrounds interested in CSR/OSR. Most graduates go on to work in private organizations (CSR and Social and Solidarity Economy), while some pursue careers in public entities, including local authorities.

Skills

The RSEE program trains future CSR/OSR generalists who are able to:
• Understand the tools and methods used in CSR/OSR.
• Identify and analyze an organization’s main environmental and social challenges.
• Develop action plans or roadmaps that contribute to CSR/OSR goals.
• Apply a broad understanding of sustainability to raise awareness, provide critical insight, and foster reflection.
• Propose analytical approaches to complex, multi-scale, and multi-stakeholder issues.
• Identify barriers and levers to organizational sustainability.
• Raise awareness on sustainability issues through effective communication.
• Lead and co-manage long-term, multi-stakeholder projects.

Objectives

The M2 RSEE program operates through a work-study format, either via apprenticeship or continuing education. This structure offers students a dual learning experience, combining academic training with “learning by doing” within their host organization.

The university component aims to develop analytical and systemic understanding of sustainability trajectories, policies, and narratives (CSR/OSR), while also strengthening operational and specialized CSR/OSR skills. These abilities serve as levers for organizational action and transformation, grounded in solid knowledge, analytical frameworks, and methodologies, alongside transversal and specific competencies.

The program directly contributes to socio-ecological transitions in response to global changes (climate, environment, energy, digital). The main objectives of the M2 are to:
• Identify social, societal, and environmental challenges faced by companies and non-profit organizations in relation to their CSR/OSR strategies.
• Develop strategic thinking and initiatives aligned with sustainability challenges.
• Implement tools, methods, and indicators for CSR/OSR approaches.
• Design and manage multi-stakeholder projects.
• Understand the specificities of the Social and Solidarity Economy as an alternative model promoting non-profit or limited-profit sustainability.

Target Audience and Entry Requirements

Admission to the M2 program is open to graduates of the M1 RSEE, other M1 students within the Science of Sustainability track, and “external” students from other disciplines. External recruitment allows the integration of students who have completed a master’s degree (environmental sciences, economics, AES, law) or an engineering program, as well as professionals in continuing education. This diversity strengthens the M2 RSEE’s ability to meet the demands of a work-study format and promotes CSR training for students from varied academic backgrounds.

Admission for all applicants is based on a review of the application and a motivation interview. Special attention is given to candidates’ motivation, prior experience (internships), and future career plans.

For M1 RSEE students, entry into M2 is not automatic and requires engagement and regular attendance in M1, as well as completion of an internship. This requirement aligns with the program’s goal of maintaining a significant proportion of external students in M2 (40% of the cohort).

Prerequisites include:

  • Demonstrated strong interest in ecological transition and systemic analysis.
  • Sufficient written and oral communication skills to implement CSR/OSR awareness actions and narratives.
  • Prior operational experience (internship, etc.) related to sustainability or organizational change in a public or private organization.
