Information
Objectives
The objective of this program is to enable students to acquire the knowledge and skills required to master the methods, tools, and concepts of Market Access (MA) and Health Economic Outcomes Research (HEOR) as applied to drugs and medical devices.
The curriculum covers the economic environment of healthcare products, the funding and regulation of healthcare expenditures, healthcare institutions, MA and HEOR applied to drugs and medical devices (MDs), as well as the MA of special products (vaccines, biosimilars, e-health, telemedicine, etc.).
Throughout the Master’s program, students complete their training under an apprenticeship scheme (1 week of classes / 3 weeks in the workplace), working in pharmaceutical companies, MD manufacturers, consulting firms, institutions, or hospitals. This format allows them to directly apply the knowledge acquired in class.
The identity of the program is strongly rooted in hands-on learning through numerous case studies and group projects. Over the course of the year, every student must prepare a Therapeutic Interest Note (transparency dossier) and conduct an HEOR efficiency dossier. Students also practice strategic MA, where they learn how to position their product and defend their strategy. They participate in a negotiation seminar to develop familiarity with negotiation stances and language.
Each year, the entire cohort attends the ISPOR (International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research) Congress for five days, where the latest economic developments and innovations in MA and HEOR are presented. This provides students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a specialized international environment and expand their professional network.
Finally, students are required to write a Master Thesis on a specific MA or HEOR issue, following the structure of a research paper (introduction, research question, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusion). The preparation of scientific articles is also encouraged.
These competencies open up career opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry and across the broader healthcare sector, in departments dedicated to economic affairs.
