The Master's program in Intellectual Property, Digital, and Space Law enables students to acquire knowledge and skills in these three fields, with the goal of further deepening them in the second year of the Master's program, either in Paris-Saclay or at another university.

The Master’s program is structured around competency blocks spread over two semesters.
In the first semester, students are introduced to intellectual property law and digital law. In addition, this semester includes courses in business law, as intellectual property law and digital law are closely linked to corporate and market dynamics. Finally, the semester also features courses in European and international law, since intellectual property and digital law are inherently international in nature.
The second semester is primarily dedicated to deepening knowledge in intellectual property and digital law, both in domestic, European, and international contexts. A technical introduction to network systems and artificial intelligence provides students with essential insights into technology, enabling them to better grasp its legal implications.

Attendance in class is mandatory.

Présentation

Skills

Master the fundamentals of law, primarily Contract Law, Civil Liability Law, General and Special Criminal Law, Property Law, and the foundations of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms. Mastery of these core areas ensures the ability to analyze, think critically, and adapt to the complex fields of Intellectual Property Law and Digital Law.

Objectives

The Master’s program in Intellectual Property, Digital, and Space Law allows students to begin, from the first year of the Master’s, training to address the new challenges faced by law in an information- and innovation-driven society. This program aims to develop in law students—already familiar with the core legal tools—the ability to adapt these tools to an inherently international environment that is highly dependent on technological developments and the social practices that accompany them.

Through an interdisciplinary approach, this Master’s program enables students to acquire legal expertise combined with an economic perspective and enriched by a basic technical understanding of technology. Thanks to courses in Business Law—such as Competition Law, Consumer Law, and Distribution Law—students are also trained in essential areas for their future professional practice.

This Master 1 is therefore a program of gradual pre-specialization in the IP/IT field. It serves as a preparatory year for specialized second-year Master’s programs (Master 2) in Intellectual Property Law, Digital Law, or Space Law.

Beyond the acquisition of knowledge, this Master 1 also aims to ensure the development of skills that facilitate professional integration through adapted teaching methods (interactive seminars, flipped classroom learning, article writing, participation in academic events, theater workshops, courses in English, etc.).

Two application options are available:

  • Master 1 on the Guyancourt campus, which provides access to all second-year Master’s programs (Master 2) in Intellectual Property, Digital, and Space Law at Université Paris-Saclay, offered on the Guyancourt and Sceaux campuses.
  • International Double Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Law (IAPI), which leads to a double degree over two years: the Maîtrise en droit awarded by UQAM (Université du Québec à Montréal) and the Master’s degree (M1 and M2 DIP@N) awarded by Université Paris-Saclay. The first year takes place at UQAM in Montréal, and the second year at Université Paris-Saclay on the Guyancourt campus.

Target Audience and Entry Requirements

Admission to the first-year Master’s program in Intellectual Property, Digital, and Space Law is selective and requires, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Private Law – L3 Law (or equivalent, VAA). Applicants must demonstrate a solid legal background and a strong interest in culture, art, and digital technologies. Completing an internship and/or writing a dissertation in a field related to the program during the undergraduate degree helps demonstrate the candidate’s motivation and commitment to this area of study.

To apply for the International Double Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Law (IAPI), candidates must hold an undergraduate degree in Law (Canadian Bachelor’s degree, French Licence in Law, or equivalent) with a cumulative average of at least 12/20. Applications with an average between 11 and 12 may be considered if other factors justify it (such as a demonstrated strong interest and relevant experience in the fields of Intellectual Property and Digital Law).
