Objectives

The objective of the “Energy Economics” course is to address all the issues linked to the energy transition by mobilizing multidisciplinary analyzes but with an economic prism. Key analyzes are proposed to understand the issues, constraints and problems that energy sectors encounter in their development and/or evolution. The disciplinary fields taught include: fundamental aspects of economics (microeconomics, macroeconomics); statistical and operational research methods (advanced econometrics, optimization applied to energy); the geopolitics of energy; the renewable energy sector; the industrial energy economy; project management and financing; energy and climate.   • Respond in a pro-active manner, putting economic analysis and mathematical modeling tools into action to address complex issues related to the energy sector.

  • Overall organisation

    2 semesters, from september to august. 4 months of internship minimum

    Career prospects

    This programme prepares students for the following jobs:

    • project manager in the various energy sectors;
    • developer of renewable energy projects;
    • strategic and financial advisor in an energy company;
    • business engineer in a company offering integrated energy services;
    • research and development manager;
    • director of technical-economic, strategic and environmental studies;
    • flow consumption (water, energy) manager for a company or a local community;
    • engineer / economist for a company in the energy sector, an engineering consultancy office, a local body, a government agency or an international organisation;
    • expert in environmental problems linked to energy for national or international institutions;
    • researcher (if following further studies at doctoral level).

    A follow-up of graduate students is carried out at the end of the training and the returned surveys show an employment rate of over 95 % a year or so after graduation.

    Baccalaureat + 4 years, high proficiency in maths, statististics, economics, econometrics

    Rythme de la formation
    Semestres avec des blocs de cours fondamentaux et appliqués de septembre à septembre, 4 mois minimum de stage. Rythme adapté pour étudiants sous statut d'alternant.

    Possibilité de passerelle ou équivalence pour des entrées directes en M2 après des cursus ingénieur ou école de commerce, ENS, M1 économie ou mathématiques, etc.

    Post-graduate profile

    At the end of the course the students are able to:
    - analyse the energy markets and energy sectors (supply and demand) as well as technological and financial aspects;
    - understand and apply the concepts of needs analysis;
    - carry out and interpret prospective studies, using the methods and software required;
    - develop a multi-criteria analysis method in the development of strategic intervention choices;
    - Be able to put project management tools into practice and develop business plans to determine profitability and financing of a project;
    - coordinate actors to put proposed solutions into operation;
    - model and quantify an economic phenomenon (econometrics, operational research, simulation methods);
    - understand the mechanisms and institutions at work in public policies and negotiation strategies;
    - understand the environmental and climate issues surrounding the energy sector;
    - develop original research projects by putting into action empirical knowledge of the sector combined with cutting-edge analysis tools in the academic discipline.
