The Magistere in Biology is a selective university diploma, completed over three years concurrently with the third year of a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Health (AMCV) or Biology and Environment (BOE), followed by a Master's degrees in Biodiversity, Environmental Sciences and Evolution (BEE) or Cellular and Molecular Biology (BMC) or Microbiology, or Neuroscience.

The first year of the Magistere in Biology, LDD3 Biologie cursus Magistère, is a joint cursus of 2 double degree bachelor's degree in Chemistry-Life Sciences or Mathematics-Life Sciences, depending on the student's first two years of study.

It consists of a standard L3 curriculum in either Health Biology or Biology of Organisms and Ecology, supplemented by advanced English courses (including an intensive session in the spring), an introduction to the business world and business plans, courses in data science, annual internships in scientific laboratories, supervised personal projects, oral presentation training, and a joint genetics course taught in English with the ENS Paris-Saclay.

Skills

Graduates of the Magistere in Biology, at the Bac+5 level (five years of higher education), will have acquired the knowledge and skills enabling them to:

  • understand and master the problems related to the use of living matter;
  • possess the open-mindedness and adaptability necessary for the scientific and technological development of businesses in the broadest sense;
  • be able to manage projects in multidisciplinary teams, foster a spirit of innovation, and develop initiative;
  • undertake doctoral studies under optimal conditions thanks to high-level preparation.

Students will be able to interpret and present, both orally and in writing, experiments in Life Sciences, in both English and French, and will master cutting-edge concepts in the disciplines taught. They will be introduced to the practices of scientific and civic ecological ethics, as well as data science, an essential field in biological sciences and science in general. Students will also undertake supervised personal projects to acquire the skills necessary for project management and progress reporting.

Objectives

The objective of the Magistere in Biology is to train researchers and professors so that they can join public research organizations (Higher Education, CNRS, INRA …) and private organizations (Research & Development) or become managers in the Bio-industries (Microbiological Engineering, Agri-food, Plant Production, Pollution Control, Environment, Health and Pharmacy).

The aim of the Magistere in Biology is thus to provide high-level scientific training, intensive English courses, and an introduction to business in Biotechnologies in the wider sense. 

At the end of the first year, students will earn a Double Degree Bachelor's degree in Chemistry-Life Sciences or Mathematics-Life Sciences, which grants admission to several Master's programs in Life Sciences at Université Paris-Saclay.
