From 19 to 23 June, the Law Graduate School at Université Paris-Saclay hosted the first edition of a unique and exciting international summer school exploring the protection of people in a globalised world. The summer school took place at the Jean Monnet Faculty (Law, Economics, Management) on its campus in Sceaux and was organised in partnership with the European University Alliance for Global Health, EUGLOH.

Aimed at undergraduates, postgraduates, and researchers, the programme looked at “From territories to the ‘global village’: how to protect people in a globalized environment?”, and covered a wide range of subjects, including the protection of personal health data, smart objects, environmental and human rights issues as well as collective defence procedures.

During a series of morning masterclasses, leading international experts shared their extensive expertise in the fields of law and other disciplines (geography, pharmacy, political science, economics and computer sciences), with a particular focus on how best to reinforce trust, connection, and community for present and future generations.

The afternoon sessions were centred around interactive workshops, led mainly by PhD candidates from Université Paris-Saclay and EUGLOH members.

The guest speakers travelled from higher education institutions around the world, including (but not limited to) Northeastern University (USA), Columbia University (USA), Lund (Sweden), Alcalà (Spain), Bologna (Italy) and many more.

At the end of the week, which was filled with stimulating intellectual and cultural exchange, the students and PhD candidates were awarded a participation certificate by the Deputy Head of International Relations at the Université Paris-Saclay Law Graduate School, Véronique Magnier, and the Mayor of Sceaux, Philippe Laurent. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail reception in the gardens of the Sceaux Town Hall.
