Objectives

The Master’s degree in Creation and Digital Law (Master 2 DCN) is a pioneering program dedicated to the study of the confrontation between copyright law and new technologies. It pursues two essential objectives:

• To provide a specialization in copyright law, considered in all its dimensions, including the most contemporary ones (software, video games, databases).

• To provide a specialization in digital law (personal data law, contract and liability law, specific criminal law relating to technologies, labor law).

In order to enable students to acquire comprehensive professional skills, the DCN program’s curriculum is based on three essential commitments:

• First, the commitment to professionalization. Students are trained in contract drafting (audiovisual contracts, publishing contracts, software-related contracts) and learn to address the concrete difficulties encountered in litigation, thanks to the involvement of numerous practicing lawyers and in-house counsel responsible for these courses. In addition, a 2-to-6-month internship beginning in April provides an opportunity to put acquired knowledge into practice. Internship searches are facilitated by the reputation and longevity of our alumni network and by events such as the Faculty’s IP/IT Masters Job Fair (one-to-one interviews with professionals aimed at securing internships).

• Second, the commitment to understanding the technological environment. From its inception, the program has included technical instruction (an introduction to software design and operation, knowledge of information systems and networks) so that students can become familiar with the functioning of the technological tools they encounter.

• Finally, the commitment to internationalization. In line with the expectations of a job market in which contracts are very often drafted in English (not to mention the language of negotiation of European directives), the program incorporates a genuine international dimension. Students are trained in international and treaty-based intellectual property law (by a professor from the Max Planck Institute), are introduced to the copyright system through the Copyright Law course (taught in English by a British professor), and attend conferences and debates in English on digital law.

Moreover, beyond the teaching provided by a high-quality academic team, the DCN program offers integration into a particularly dynamic ecosystem. Students are invited to thematic conferences designed to broaden their thinking, meet professionals through the alumni association, and may take part in the work of our legal clinic. They also refine their critical thinking through the writing of a research dissertation.
