Whether your decision to quit is voluntary, encouraged by those around you, or recommended by your doctor, it is part of a comprehensive support process that involves preparing to quit, stopping substance use, and receiving follow-up care. The duration of each stage varies from person to person. Quitting smoking is not simply about putting out your cigarette or joint in an ashtray. It is a gradual process that requires preparation, personal reflection and significant changes in your habits and beliefs about the substances you use.
The CSAPA (Centre for Addiction Treatment, Support and Prevention) located in Arpajon, in the Essonne department, offers Young Consumers Consultations (YCC).
A YCC outreach consultation provides a safe and confidential space for listening, information, assessment and, where necessary, referral to appropriate support services. It is intended for people experiencing difficulties with their use of psychoactive substances, whether legal or illegal, or with behavioural addictions. It is also open to people concerned about someone else's addictive behaviours.
The consultation aims to:
- Assess the individual's overall situation and identify any potentially harmful substance use;
- Provide personalised information and advice to people engaging in risky or harmful substance use;
- Refer individuals experiencing difficulties to appropriate services when longer-term support or treatment is needed.
A wide range of addictions and addictive behaviours are addressed, including alcohol, tobacco, heroin, ecstasy, video gaming, gambling, excessive screen use, new psychoactive substances (NPS), prescription medication misuse and eating disorders.
Three fundamental principles apply:
- Healthcare professionals are bound by professional confidentiality;
- Consultations are free of charge;
- Participation is voluntary, and the individual's freedom of choice is respected.
