Université Paris-Saclay obtains its Erasmus+ charter: essential to submit European projects for education

Article published on 15 March 2021

Within the framework of the new 2021-2027 Erasmus+ programme, Université Paris-Saclay submitted its application for the Erasmus+ charter defining  its broad policy in terms of mobility and pedagogical innovation. The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency approved this policy at the end of 2020, awarding Université Paris-Saclay the highest grade.

Application for the Charter is indispensable to the submission of Erasmus+ projects: this certification enables institutions to apply for European training funds. The application is divided in two sections: the Erasmus Policy Statement and the General Organisation of Activities. The first is focused on the main questions around the internationalisation strategy of the institution and the second on the concrete establishment of activities, namely Erasmus+ mobility. The Policy Statement was written jointly with the component institutions, associate institutions, and constituent faculties and institutes of the university. This joint composition is the first step in a common effort to offer students and teacher-researchers mutualised training programmes, a unified mobility procedure, and opportunities for internalisation and pedagogical innovation. The associate institutions and component institutions also renewed with brio their Erasmus+ Charter for their own training offering.

Through its assessment, the Agency recognised the quality of the collective work carried out by UPSaclay, along with its component and associate institutions, to define an Erasmus+ strategy in line with the fundamental principles of the new programme: Inclusion, Sustainable Development, Recognition of Mobility, European Citizenship and Digitization.

This strategy is built around the EUGLOH European Alliance, which will serve as a testing ground for the main challenges of the programme. The increase of mobility by 50% within the Alliance is a key priority. Particular attention will be given to student audiences who are usually not involved in mobility. Green mobility will gradually be established along with a digitization process within the framework of the European Student Card Inititiative. Raising awareness to European citizenship will also be at the core of all Erasmus+ actions.

From this point forward, UPSaclay is ready to submit projects and is preparing for the Erasmus+ programme guide, as announced by the Erasmus+ France / Education Formation agency to be published at the end of the first quarter of 2021.

The new 2021-2027 programme is promising, namely with a budget almost doubled, at 26 billion euros for 2021-2027, against 14 billion for 2014-2020. In terms of structure, the programme is once again organised around 3 key actions involving many novelties for item 1 dedicated to mobility. Blended mobility will be a useful tool in order to enable the widest audience to participate in an intercultural experience. Teacher-researchers will be able to rely on this programmes to enrich their pedagogical practices thanks to Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees and to partnerships of excellence. European universities will also be at the heart of this new programme. Finally, the programme is reinforcing its international outreach thanks to extended exchange opportunities with non-EU countries.
