Jean-Yves Le Gall elected Chair of Université Paris-Saclay’s Strategic Advisory Board

Jean-Yves Le Gall, who was President of France’s national space agency, the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) until April 2021, was unanimously elected Chair of Université Paris-Saclay’s Strategic Advisory Board on Friday 18 June 2021.

Université Paris-Saclay’s Strategic Advisory Board consists of thirteen leading figures who offer the University guidance on its strategic direction and monitor its implementation. During the Board’s first seminar which was held on 18 and 19 June 2021, Jean-Yves Le Gall was unanimously elected Chair.

Born in 1959, Jean-Yves Le Gall is an engineer and scientist who has devoted his career to the European space programme, holding positions at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), several French ministries, Novespace, Starsem and Arianespace, where he was Chairman and CEO.

From 2013 to 2021, Jean-Yves Le Gall was President of the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES), the French national space agency. In this capacity, he was also inter-ministerial coordinator for satellite navigation programmes. In addition to leading CNES, he was also Chair of the Council of the European Space Agency (ESA) and Chair of the Administrative Board of GSA, the European GNSS Agency in charge of Galileo.

Jean-Yves Le Gall is Honorary Ambassador and former President of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). He is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and Vice President of the "Space Circle" at the French think-tank CEPS (Centre d’Etude et de Prospective Stratégique). He chairs Medef International’s France-Japan business council, is President of the Foundation for the study of Japanese language and civilization and a member of the Franco-Mexican Strategic Council.

Jean-Yves Le Gall is also a member of the board of Université de Paris Est Créteil and Université Paris-Saclay’s Strategic Advisory Board, becoming its first Chair. In this capacity, he will attend Université Paris-Saclay’s Governing Board meetings.
