Didier Samuel appointed Head of Inserm

On Wednesday 1 February, Professor Didier Samuel was appointed Chairman and CEO of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm), upon recommendation by Sylvie Retailleau, the French Minister for Higher Education and Research, and François Braun, the French Minister for Health and Prevention. Until now, he had been Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Université Paris-Saclay.

Biography

A doctor, professor and researcher, Didier Samuel has dedicated his entire career to both his work in healthcare and research. As a Professor of Hepatology at Université Paris-Saclay, the Head of the Physiopathogenesis and Treatment of Liver Diseases research unit (Université Paris-Saclay/Inserm), the Head of the Hepatology and Liver Intensive Care unit and of the liver transplant programme at Paul-Brousse hospital, Didier Samuel has been Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Université Paris-Saclay since 2017. He was elected President of the Conference of Deans of Schools of Medicine in 2022, and also chaired the National Research Coordination Committee.

He is a world-renowned specialist in liver disease and transplants.
