Financial support from the Graduate School of computer science

Whether you are a teacher, researcher, engineer, phD student or master student at the Université Paris-Saclay in the field of computer sciences,
Graduate School can help you to develop your business.

ACADEMIA

If you have been recruited in the last two years at Université Paris-Saclay, you can ask for some support to the GS ISN to ease your intergration in our scientific community :

Master Internship

What? The GS can cover the cost for one master’s internship grant (4 to 6 months at the usual minimum wage). When? Please send us by email at gs.isn@universite-paris-saclay.fr the Internship’s scientific description before November for an Internship in next Spring. How? You will have to advertise for this internship in your usual networks, and publish it on the dedicated plateform [lien]. Once you’ve identified a candidate student, you will need to prepare the internship agreement as you would do for a conventional internship in your laboratory. On the agreement, the host institution will be your laboratory and you must indicate that «  the stipend will be paid by the GS ISN ». The GS will reimburse the laboratory.

6 internships were financed in 2021, 10 internships were financed in 2022

Seminar

What? The GS can help you organise and support the cost of a one-day seminar, with one or two invited researchers from France working on the same theme, a buffet lunch and/or a coffee break in the morning or afternoon (500 € maximum). The seminar must involve several researchers from the Université Paris-Saclay. When? We deal with these requests on an ongoing basis: please, contact us by email to gs.isn@universite-paris-saclay.fr. How? A meeting with the GS team will help you define the scope of your seminar, identify possible contacts in Paris-Saclay, and prepare the seminar.

2 seminars were organized in 2022

What? The GS ISN can pay for a short stay (typically 2 to 5 days, up to €1,000) in a laboratory in metropolitan France (for all journeys of less than 5 hours, train travel mandatory) to develop scientific collaborations with colleagues.
A short report on the stay and any follow-up action (project submission, etc.) is requested at the end of the stay.

When? We process these requests on an ongoing basis, without a selection committee (demands are evaluated by the GS board).

How? Please send your request by e-mail to gs.isn@universite-paris-saclay.fr, with a copy to your lab director, indicating the target laboratory, the purpose of the stay (with whom, on what subject), the duration of the stay and an estimated budget. Your laboratory will pay for the mission, and GS will reimburse the laboratory.

What? All conferences, workshops or summer schools organized in Paris-Saclay in the domain of computer science can ask for a subvention up to €1,000.

When? We process these requests on an ongoing basis, without a selection committee (demands are evaluated by the GS board).

How? Please send your request by email to gs.isn@universite-paris-saclay.fr, indicating the name of the event and, if possible, a link to the website. In return for GS financial support, we ask that the logo be added to the event page.

2 events were supported in 2021, 4 events were in 2022

What? As part of the Université Paris-Saclay's SFRI programme, the Graduate School of computer science offers grants for Masters students who want to participate to summer school. Trainees in computer science, bioinformatics or MIAGE from Université Paris-Saclay can also benefit from these grants during their internships: don’t forget to tell them !

When? Discuss this possibility with them during recruitment or at the very begining of the internship period, for a summer school at the end of training period. We process applications on an ongoing basis, without a selection committee. Please remember to indicate in the internship agreement that the trainee may have to be sent to a mission!

How? Please send your application by email to gs.isn@universite-paris- saclay.fr, indicating which school you are applying to (if possible with a link to the event website). The GS will take care of registration, travel and accommodation for the student. Don't make any commitments of your own!

The GS funds up to 5 working groups each year. Working groups can last for a maximum of 2 years and receive €7.5K that can be used to organize meetings (3 000€) and to hire one or two Master's students (4 500€, unlocked when recruiting). The working group must bring together researchers from different teams in Université Paris-Saclay on a new research theme to explore new avenues of research and, possibly, prepare larger-scale projects. The working group may include people outside the GS of computer science or even Université Paris-Saclay (for example, from IPP, as was the case for the Labex).

If you would like to set up a working group, you should send your proposal to gs.isn@universite-paris-saclay.fr, clearly specifying the list of researchers, teams, and laboratories involved and providing a 2 to 3 pages description of the scientific position and the scientific challenges. Your proposal will be examined by the GS Board and Research Committee. Applications are made on an ongoing basis (no specific call).

The Graduate School of Computer Science is taking over from the Labex in funding research projects from 2023 on. Each year, the GS funds doctoral grants via a call for projects in January.

Who? Researchers at Université Paris-Saclay setting up an international mobility project with a partner identified by the DRIE (Direction Relations Internationales et Européennes).

What? The GS supplements the funding provided by the University.

How? Please, Send details of your project to gs.isn@universite-paris-saclay.fr. There is no call for applications : we process the demands on an ongoing basis.

Who? Ph.D. Students or young researchers outside Université Paris-Saclay

What? Invited stay in a GS ISN's lab for a scientific collaboration (up to 2000 EUR)

How? The inviting researcher (a GS ISN lab member) should send the project details to gs.isn@universite-paris-saclay.fr.
In the event of a favorable decision, the funding will be paid to the laboratory by the GS.

What? To reinforce existing collaborations, GS ISN can cover part of the costs that would not be covered under this agreement.
When? We process requests on an ad hoc basis (requests are evaluated by the GS board).
How? Please send your request by email to gs.isn@universite-paris- saclay.fr, giving as much information as possible about the collaboration (the laboratories and researchers involved), the objective of the action (with whom, on what subject, for what purpose) and a budget estimate.

Students

Who? All PhD students from the STIC doctoral school, regardless of their scientific pole, funding, institution or laboratory, are eligible for the following grants.

What? Three grants are proposed:

  • Invited researcher in a laboratory for scientific collaboration (max. 2000 EUR)
  • Summer school (max. EUR 1000)
  • For PhD students without additional support (e.g. grants from the ministry): one mission to a scientific conference (max. EUR 1,500).

When? Once during the duration of the thesis for each action.

How? For invited stays or summer schools, you must contact the secretary of the pole of the ED STIC which you belong to. The mission will be paid by your laboratory, which will then be reimbursed by the ED and the Computer science GS.

For conferences (limited to some PhD grants), you must ask your thesis supervisor to send a letter to gs.isn@universite-paris-saclay.fr that explains the financial support of your PhD thesis, what the is targeted conference and why it is important for you to attend. As with the other two actions, the mission will be paid by the laboratory, which will then be reimbursed by the ED.

Be part of our academic team

As part of the momentum generated by several calls for projects (SFRI, ExcellenceS, Compétences et métiers d'avenir (CMA)), Université Paris-Saclay is launching the recruitment of Associate Professors. This scheme is aimed at researchers from the National Research Organisations (ONR) as well as professionals from outside the academic world who are prepared to make a significant commitment to teaching and who have a taste for and ability to pass on knowledge and teaching skills. These are generally 3-years contracts with an annual teaching service of 48 hours, completed with collective pedagogical tasks. The annual salary is €7,768 gross. These posts will be based on a similar model to those set up as part of SaclAI-School (CMA IA): https://www.dataia.eu/offres/professeure-attachee-saclai-school-fh

The link to offers supported by the SFRI and ExcellencES projects will be added at a later date.

Grants are proposed for international students. More information.

The Jean d’Alembert grants allow international researchers to work in our labs for six to twelve month. More information.
