Présentation
Objectives

The objectives of this course are to train students in research work in the various disciplines of management sciences (strategy, finance, marketing, accounting, management control, human resources, marketing, information systems, etc.).

The conception of the Master's degree is multidisciplinary and deals with the relations of management sciences with economics, sociology, history and engineering sciences.

This is a highly research-oriented path of excellence for a limited number of students who wish to engage in doctoral work at the end of the M2 program. Students enrolled in M2 Training for Higher Education Professions also prepare for the external "agrégation" competition in economics and management.

In line with these ambitious objectives, recruitment is therefore very selective.

Course Prerequisites

The Master in Management (research) study path is open to applicants who hold a university undergraduate degree in management and/or economics-business or an equivalent qualification from a Grandes École, endorsed the French government. The prerequisites and the student profile that qualify for entry into the various study paths of the Master are typically as follows: - Students in the first year (L3) of the Ecole Normale Supérieure Paris Saclay - Undergraduate degree in Management, or with Management as core curriculum; - Undergraduate degree in Economics-Business or AES; - Undergraduate degree in Social Sciences or LEA with a study path oriented towards the world of organisations; - Any other equivalent qualification that features Management as its core curriculum. In addition, students must speak English to B1 level at minimum.

Skills
  • Analyse and interpret managerial situations in a variety of settings.

  • Combine theories and practices to present management problems.

  • Formulate problems in subjects across all fields of management sciences (finance, strategy, marketing, accounting, human resources, logistics, project management, innovation, etc.).

  • Develop diagnostics and put forward recommendations for organisations in all fields of management science.

  • Write structured analyses in articles, briefs, reports, etc..

  • Confidently present results, advances and conclusions.

Post-graduate profile

Most of those enrolled in the Master in Management (research) programme are first-year students at Ecole Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay. The M1 programme also has a handful participants who have passed the school's second competitive examination (entry into M1) as well as a few external applicants.

At the end of the M1, students can choose between two M2s: the Master in Management (research) M2 prepares them directly for thesis entry as part of a personalised training project. The Training for Higher Education Trades M2 prepares students to enter the national competitive examination for third-cycle teaching in the fields of economics, business and management.

Agreements with partner laboratories, schools and universities create opportunities for research stays abroad or entry into follow-up M2 programmes at partner organisations, when these programmes form part of a coherent research project.

This is assessed on a case-by-case basis by the head of department of the Master's discipline.

Career prospects

The Master's course primarily leads to entry into a doctoral thesis in management science.

Career opportunities in management sciences are booming, with numerous teaching and research opportunities in universities and schools, in France and abroad (20 % of French higher education students follow a business and management course).

In business & management sciences, theses can be carried out in partnership with companies, paving the way to careers in consulting, jobs in public or private organisations, or posts in civil society organisations.
