2022-10-19 10:00 2022-10-19 11:30 Cultural Neuroscience: insights in theory and practice

Description: The field of intercultural studies has been strongly dominated by the idea of blank slate, implying that individuals are born ready to be “installed” with cultural software. This seemingly cultural determinism contrasts with biology determinism, i.e. biology takes centre stage. Using an interdisciplinary approach, we will explore the notion that nature and nurture intertwine, in other words, culture and biology interact. We will use this approach to discuss two cases that are related to the field of (1) neurosexism and (2) plasticity genes. intercultural communication, diversity and inclusion:
Through these two cases, the webinar provides insights and explores new directions in the way neuroscience can contribute to the field of interculturalism, diversity and inclusion.

Speaker: Dr. Mai Nguyen is an associate professor at Amsterdam School of International Business. She is known for working as a bridge between cross-cultural communication and the field of neuroscience. Following her study at King's College London in a Master program on Applied Neuroscience, in 2020, she published her latest book 'Cross-Cultural Management with Insights from Brain Science' (Routledge). As a consultant, she specialises in organisational neuroscience, bringing contribution of brain science to further understanding and successful practises of leadership, diversity, change, bias management and well-being.
