Objectives

The pedagogical objectives of the programme are:

  • learning the concepts and the main paradigms of sociology,
  • introducing students to the diversity of investigation methods (quality and quantity), from basics to the most advanced techniques,
  • developing a critical and analytical mind,
  • practicing disciplinary, cultural, linguistic and international openness.Contemporary Sociology is a broad high-level programme that also delves into specialty areas. For example: work, employment, training, corporate and business relations; public action – from local to supranational scales; production and mobilisation of the law; sciences and techniques; data sciences; environnemental issues.

  • Overall organisation

    The Master's degree in Contemporary Political Sociology is a general, research-oriented Master's degree in sociology and political science, based on the two central disciplines of the GS Sociology and Political Science, and thus linked to the two specializations Sociology and Political Science at the University of Paris-Saclay.

    Career prospects

    The "Contemporary Sociology" study path puts a strong emphasis on research, primarily leading students to doctoral studies in sociology.

    Trained in the theoretical and methodological developments of sociology, graduates will be able to put their knowledge to use in various demanding and stimulating professional contexts, primarily in research and tertiary-level teaching in the field of social sciences, and as experts in public and private organisations.

    Course Prerequisites

    A background in social sciences (sociology, anthropology, political sciences, history, economics, management, mathematics and informatics applied to social sciences, geography, language sciences, etc.). Students from other disciplines who show a proven motivation for this discipline and a specific study plan may be accepted.
