Thomas Tachdjian crowned U23 Wheelchair Fencing World Champion in épée
On 19 June 2026, Thomas Tachdjian claimed gold in épée and silver in foil at the U23 Wheelchair Fencing World Championships held in Mersin, Türkiye.
Thomas Tachdjian, a third-year medical student at Université Paris-Saclay, delivered an outstanding performance at this year's U23 Wheelchair Fencing World Championships in Türkiye. He was crowned World Champion in the Category B épée event after defeating China's Wang Jicheng in a remarkable final. He also secured a silver medal in the foil competition, completing an exceptional campaign. Thomas Tachdjian is an elite athlete and a member of the French national wheelchair fencing team.
The nephew of Michel Tachdjian, who won the French rugby championship with Racing in 1990, the young athlete from the Paris region successfully combines high-level sport with his medical studies. Recently named Île-de-France's Para Athlete of the Year (Rising Star), he is also supported by the Fondation L'Équipe, the charitable foundation of the L'Équipe Group.
Following this world-title success, Thomas Tachdjian is now focused on his next major goals: the European Championships, to be held in Cardiff, Wales, in October, followed by the 2027 World Championships, with the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games firmly in his sights.
