QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024: Université Paris-Saclay in the global top 50 for seven subjects

The results of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 were released on 10 April 2024. Université Paris-Saclay has continued to excel in the ranking this year, securing spots on the global top 20 for two subjects: 13th in Mathematics (16th in 2023) and 14th in Physics & Astronomy (17th in 2023).

Every year, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) publishes its World University Rankings by Subject. The ranking analyses institutions across 55 subjects in five broad faculty areas: Natural Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Social Sciences & Management, and Arts & Humanities. This year, Université Paris-Saclay has continued to excel, with 27 subjects ranked, in comparison with 14 subjects in 2023. In the five broad faculty areas, Université Paris-Saclay has kept its spot in the global top 20 for Natural Sciences, ranked 18th (19th in 2023), which includes the subject Agriculture & Forestry. The university has also demonstrated strong progress in Life Sciences & Medicine, ranked 58th (102nd in 2023).

Université Paris-Saclay has maintained its spot in the global top 20 for two subjects, and is among the world’s top 50 universities for seven subjects (six in 2023):

  • 13th in the world (2nd in France) for Mathematics (16th in 2023)
  • 14th in the world (1st in France) for Physics & Astronomy (17th in 2023)
  • 27th in the world (4th in France) for Statistics and Operational Research (41st in 2023)
  • 37th in the world (1st in France) for Engineering – Electrical & Electronic (27th in 2023)
  • 38th in the world (2nd in France) for Agriculture & Forestry (26th in 2023)
  • 44th in the world (2nd in France) for Computer Science & Information Systems (41st in 2023)
  • 50th in the world (1st in France) for Engineering - Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing (new entry in 2024)

Université Paris-Saclay also features in the global top 100 for an additional seven subjects:

  • 51-100th in the world (4th in France) for Earth and Marine Sciences (new entry in 2024)
  • 51-100th in the world (2nd in France) for Engineering – Civil & Structural (new entry in 2024)
  • 53rd in the world (1st in France) for Materials Science (59th in 2023)
  • 60th in the world (2nd in France) for Biological Sciences (85th in 2023)
  • 67th in the world (2nd in France) for Pharmacy & Pharmacology (55th in 2023)
  • 75th in the world (3rd in France) for Chemistry (77nd in 2023)
  • 93rd in the world (2nd in France) for Engineering - Chemistry (new entry in 2024)

As a multidisciplinary institution, Université Paris-Saclay was also ranked 102nd for Medicine (58th in the broad faculty subject Life Sciences & Medicine), and in Social Sciences, ranked 147th for Economics and 151-200th for Law.

The QS rankings is one of three major international rankings of key interest to students and researchers around the world. Université Paris-Saclay’s performance in this edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject reinforces its position in both the 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities (15th), and the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Ranking (58th).
