The Lumen: the University’s new Learning Centre opens its doors

The Lumen Learning Centre opened its doors for the first time on Monday 18 September 2023. Open to the university’s community and also to the general public, this unique and creatively-designed building provides spaces for work, culture and leisure. Coordinated by Université Paris-Saclay, in partnership with two of its founding members, the grandes écoles ENS Paris-Saclay and CentraleSupélec, and who have moved their document collections to the new building, the Lumen will offer a variety of services aimed at achieving student success and for cultural and scientific activities.

Located at the heart of the plateau de Moulon, 8 avenue des Sciences, the Lumen will give staff and students from Université Paris-Saclay and the general public, the opportunity to make use of the centre’s spaces for work, culture and leisure. 
 

As of now, numerous services and spaces are already available: 

  • the building will open in the evening and at weekends as of October
  • over 1,000 seats, for individual or group work 
  • a space for naps
  • millions of printed or digital books, reviews and articles covering the fields dealt with on the plateau du Moulon
  • wifi

In the coming weeks, other services will be made available to the public:

  • Catering services (vending machines and later a brasserie) 
  • A recording studio for video creation (interviews, podcasts, documentaries)
  • Loans of board games 
  • A material library managed by the Design Spot
  • An event, educational and cultural programme.

The Lumen will be open from Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 7pm from 19 – 29 September. As of 2 October, it will be open from Monday to Friday from 8.30am – 10.30 pm, and from 10am-7pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
