JOINT DOCTORAL PROGRAMME OF UNIVERSITÉ PARIS-SACLAY AND THE CHINA SCHOLARSHIP COUNCIL

The Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) is a non-profit organisation of the Chinese Ministry of Education.

CSC scholarships are awarded by the Chinese government to promote cooperation between China and other partner countries, cultural exchange, knowledge exchange, and, above all, to promote excellence and good quality education.
 

University Paris-Saclay and the CSC have renewed an agreement for 2020 which provides for the funding of 50 Chinese doctoral students[1] per year to carry out their thesis at University Paris-Saclay.

OBJECTIVES
The main objective of this programme is to promote cooperation with China and thus enable the selected doctoral students to carry out their doctorate within one of the Doctoral Schools, by joining one of the research teams of Université Paris-Saclay and to benefit from a 36 or 48 month stipend.

  • Material Sciences
  • Sciences of the Universe and the Environment

  • Engineering Sciences
  • Social Sciences and Humanities


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
01 - Applicants must be citizens of the People's Republic of China;

02 - Chinese students studying for a Master's degree at the University of Paris-Saclay and at universities abroad are also eligible[2];

03 - Applicants must demonstrate a sufficient level of language skills according to the working language of the team

04 - Applicants must meet the selection criteria :

set by the Doctoral Schools of the University of Paris-Saclay

set by the CSC 

 

Proceeding of the CSC 2023 campaign 

Step 1 : Submitting applications on ADUM

You can submit your applications to one of the doctoral projects proposed in this programme on ADUM from 03/12/2022 to 22/01/2023.

Discover the subjects propose 

Your application file on ADUM must include:

01 - all the documents required by your Doctoral School

02 - a photocopy of your valid passport

03 - a CV with no gaps in the date.

Step 2 : Selection by the Doctoral Schools

The Doctoral Schools will proceed to the selection of the applications between the end of February and the beginning of March.

Step 3 : Validation of the list of eligible candidates

University Paris-Saclay will validate a main list of 50 project/applicant pairs and a complementary list between mid-March and early April.

The International Doctoral Axis transmits this list to the services concerned by the international hosting and to the CSC.

The shortlisted candidates receive a pre-admission certificate which they attach to their CSC application.

Step 4 : Selection of successful candidates by the CSC

You must apply on the CSC website (http://apply.csc.edu.cn) from 15/03/2023 to 31/03/2023 (indicative dates)

The CSC will examine the admissibility of your application in April (indicative date)

The results will be published by the CSC in June (indicative date)

Step 1 : Collection of thesis subjects

The submission of thesis topics on the ADUM platform takes place between 13/09/2022 and 10/10/2022

 ⇒ The thesis directors submit the subject by choosing the type of funding "Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) - UPSaclay", integrating with a description of the project of 20 lines minimum on the ADUM portal in English, on the academic year 2023-2024, before October 10th, 2022

 ⇒ The thesis directors must indicate the pre-existing partnerships with French or foreign institutions.

The subjects will be validated by the directors of the host research units and the doctoral schools. The subjects will then be submitted to the SDF (Defence Security Officer) for validation. 

  • If your Research Unit is attached to the IOGS (Institut d'Optique Graduate School) and some of your subjects have received a reserved opinion from the SDF, you are invited to send the necessary documents to the SDF on which your laboratory depends in order to lift the reservation.
  • For the other Research Units, if some of your subjects have received a reserved opinion from the SDF, you are invited to send the necessary documents to the address: csc.phd@universite-paris-saclay.fr

 

Step 2 : Dissemination of thesis topics

Only subjects that have been validated (DU, ED and SDF) will be available online from 03/12/2022

Step 3 :  Applications from Chinese students

The submission of applications will be possible from 03/12/2022 to 22/01/2023.

Chinese students must submit their application to one of the doctoral projects proposed in the framework of this doctoral programme on the  ADUM interface.

We invite you to consult in ADUM (as and when necessary) the applications on your subjects.

IMPORTANT: if your laboratory is classified as "ZRR" or "protected", it is necessary to contact your Research Unit so that it can make a request for access for your candidates as soon as possible.

 

Step 4 : Examination of the subject-applicant pair by the SDF/HFSD

The FSD/HFSD examines the subject-candidate pair if necessary and sends the list of validated files to the International Doctoral Axis.

Step 5 : Doctoral School eligibility

The doctoral schools examine the candidates' files between the end of February and mid-March.

Step 6 : Validation of applications by University Paris-Saclay

University Paris-Saclay selects and validates a main list of 50 project-candidate pairs and a complementary list between mid-March and early April.


The pre-selected candidates receive a pre-admission certificate which they will join to their CSC application.

The International Doctoral Axis transmits this list to the departments concerned with the international hosting and to the CSC.

Step 7 : Selection of successful candidates by the CSC

Chinese candidates submit their application to the CSC (on http://apply.csc.edu.cn) from 15/03/2023 (indicative date)

The CSC examines the admissibility of the applications by the CSC, in April (indicative date)

The results will be published by the CSC in June (indicative date)
 

Université Paris-Saclay supports the laureates in their efforts to

  • obtain on-campus student accommodation or off-campus rooms and apartments in the first year of the thesis
  • find out about the formalities for filing a visa/residence permit and the procedures for opening a bank account.
  • take French courses for at least the first year.
