Présentation
Objectives

The objective of this program is to provide students with the concepts and methodology to enable them to assist public or private organisations, which are experiencing the consequences of global environmental and climate changes, with a focus on sustainability. Graduating students will have functional knowledge of the mechanisms and impact of climate change. The socio-ecosystem, vulnerability, adaptation, resilience concepts will be mastered so that they can be applied at the national, regional and local or private enterprise level. Graduates will be able to develop strategies that satisfy environmental and climatic challenges in these uncertain times. It is an important program that addresses the importance for change in public and private institutions. Students benefit from the program's remote learning possibilities and via a flipped classroom; hence this master's program proposes partial face to face training in France as well as remote training abroad. Due to its bilingual nature, classes can be offered either in English or in French.

Course Prerequisites

Students wishing to join the Adaptation to Climate Change: sustainable development and environment M2 must have a solid disciplinary or interdisciplinary grounding, demonstrated either by an M1 qualification or by significant professional or associative experience. A desire to work in an interdisciplinary situation is essential. The teaching staff are looking for colleagues whose diversity is a source of enrichment. As the issues associated with climate change are highly demanding and give rise to diverse, fast-paced learning, only top-quality applications will be considered. Since the challenges of adaptation to climate change require a commitment and an ethical stance that goes beyond simple cognitive skills, applicants should demonstrate clear motivation, and ideally some form of extra-curricular commitment.

Skills
  • Analyse contemporary issues to do with development and environmental issues through the use of analytical tools and operational approaches used in social science.

  • Implement the concepts and principles of a policy and action aimed at adaptation to climate change.

  • Carry out scientific research and organise research-related events.

  • Write a scientifically sound document to support the design and implementation of development and projects, programmes and policies concerned with adaptation to climate change.

  • Integrate knowledge from different sources while respecting ethical deliberation.

  • Design and/or lead the implementation of a policy, programme or project that aims help adapt to climate change.

Post-graduate profile

After completing their development and environmental studies specialising in Adaptation to Climate Change, graduates will master the concepts, instruments and tools used in the assessment and implementation of development policies and in the management of environmental issues. They will also have in-depth expertise in the field of adaptation to climate change and related policies, programmes and projects.

Career prospects

With the emerging questions of adaptation to environmental changes, job opportunities for graduates are expected both in the private sector and the public, in local and regional bodies. The types of jobs targeted are: integrated territorial climate plan officer, forecasting officer, sustainable development officer, 'Agenda 21' officer, consultant in the field of sustainability adaptation and implementation. Since it concerns a recognised and documented emergency, this programme is also aimed at those currently who are working in jobs where the issue of environmental changes is becoming important but who lack the conceptual and methodological training to address this issue.
