The academic world offers many opportunities for professional interaction with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds (social, national, ethnic, etc.). The various tools at our disposal for navigating these interactions appropriately — especially those developed by intercultural research —are certainly useful, but sometimes limited by a binary approach when it comes to to engaging with "Others".

About the speaker:
Claude Chastagner is Emeritus Professor of American Studies and Intercultural Communication at Montpellier Paul-Valéry University. He specialises in Anglo-American counter-cultures, popular music, and intercultural communication. He has worked in numerous parts of the world (Great Britain, Canada, USA, Germany, China, Greece, Georgia, Kazakhstan, etc.). His publications include La contre-culture américaine des années soixante (PUF 2011), De la culture rock (PUF 2011), and Des barrios aux bayous, musique populaire et identités aux États-Unis (UP Bordeaux 2022).
