BioProbe Summer School

The ChemPhysBio Summer School, organized in collaboration with the Institute for the Sciences of Light, takes place every two years. This multidisciplinary initiative brings together students, both doctoral and post-doctoral, interested in BioProbe's themes. It gathers around twenty participants, including chemists, biologists, and physicists, all sharing a common interest in approaching their research work from an interdisciplinary perspective.

This school is designed as a "starter kit," primarily intended (but not exclusively) for students beginning their doctoral studies with a single-discipline specialization. It aims to provide them with theoretical and practical knowledge across various disciplines. Additionally, it offers activities to develop interdisciplinary communication skills, making young researchers quickly operational and helping them address the complexity of their thesis issues from the first year.

The ChemPhysBio Summer School program includes lectures and seminars in the three disciplines, led by recognized specialists. Practical sessions and visits to laboratories and platforms in Paris-Saclay are also part of the program, providing participants with an immersive experience in the context of cutting-edge research. Workshops are also organized to promote exchanges between different specialties. Finally, a cultural visit and a poster session complement the program, offering participants the opportunity to exchange ideas in a friendly atmosphere.

The next edition of ChemPhysBio will take place in the summer of 2025 . To stay informed, feel free to send an email to BioProbe.

Pedagogical innovation

The organization of this first summer school in 2023 and its assessment provided an opportunity to reflect on interdisciplinary training for doctoral students. This reflection recently led to the drafting of a communication by the BioProbe coordinator, the interdisciplinary referent of the HeaDS Graduate School, and a researcher from the Chair of Action-Research on Pedagogical Innovation at Université Paris-Saclay. This communication will be presented at a symposium on interdisciplinarity at the conference of the International Association of University Pedagogy (AIPU), entitled "Higher Education and Communities: Interconnected Dynamics.
