Présentation
Objectifs pédagogiques de la formation

The LASCALA master aims at training experts in the most advanced experimental and theoretical tools and concepts in accelerators, high power lasers and associated advanced sources, as well as in their applications for science and society. The LASCALA master was created in the frame of the European university alliance for Global Health - EUGLOH, coordinated by Paris-Saclay University, with Lund University, Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Szeged as partners. The students will be ready to develop innovative ideas and enterprises related to large scale facilities. This course addresses an increasing demand for highly skilled scientists and engineers ready to contribute to this adventure and enter the job market with solid skills.

The programme includes classes, tutorials, project- and research-based trainings. Students will take advantage of seminars by international speakers, up-to-date technology demonstrations, as well as visits and practices on large scale facilities (e.g. Synchrotron SOLEIL, Pettawatt laser APOLLON, Proton Therapy Centre of Orsay, Lund Laser Centre, MaxIV synchrotron, ELI-ALPS laser facility, SPARC particle accelerator, FLAME multiterrawatt laser, CERN, etc.).

Students must complete their training with a 6-month internship in the academic sector or in the industry.

An intensive summer school also fosters the students' entrepreneurial skills including economy management, communication, patent law, and technology transfer courses so they can face the job market.

The strong partnership with SMEs and research & innovation centres allows the students to strengthen their professional skills and build their international network.

The medium of instruction is English.

Modalités pédagogiques particulières

Mobility

This master includes compulsory mobility. Students must attend at least 2 countries (different from their country of residence).

They may create their own master’s programme by choosing among different options:

  • Semester 1: Paris-Saclay University (France)
  • Semester 2: Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) or Lund University (Sweden)
  • Semester 3: Paris-Saclay University (France) or Szeged University (Hungary)
  • Semester 4: 6-month internship in academia or private companies.

Informations complémentaires

Diploma

At the end of the two years, LASCALA students will get a double or multiple diploma built on the following accredited national master degrees :

  • Master in Physics of Paris-Saclay University
  • Master in Photonics of Lund University
  • Master in Physics of Szeged University
  • Master in Physics of La Sapienza University

For example, a student who studied the first semester at Paris-Saclay University, the second semester at Lund University and the third semester at Szeged University, will get the three master’s degrees from those universities. 1 academic semester = 1 diploma !

Indicative calendar:

  • November: opening of the applications
  • Mid-February: deadline for the scholarships
  • End of March: communication of the results for scholarship (by email)
  • End of May : deadline for self-financed admissions
  • End of June : communication of the results for self-financed (by email)
  • Lectures start : beginning of september
