Université Paris-Saclay, Eldena and HABS establish NeuroSkin Lab to explore brain-skin interactions

Université Paris-Saclay, together with Eldena and HABS, has established the NeuroSkin Lab - Decoding the Brain-Skin Connection, a joint laboratory dedicated to digital neurodermatology. The signing ceremony marking the establishment of the joint laboratory took place on 19 June 2026 at the Université Paris-Saclay stand during the Viva Technology trade fair in Paris. The partnership aims to advance research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, skin sciences and neurophysiological signal analysis, to gain a deeper understanding of the interactions between the brain and the skin.

Université Paris-Saclay, together with Eldena and HABS, is joining forces to develop a new interdisciplinary field: digital neurodermatology. The NeuroSkin Lab - Decoding the Brain-Skin Connection, a joint laboratory, will foster strengthened scientific and technological cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence applied to skin sciences and brain-skin interactions.

A joint laboratory dedicated to digital neurodermatology

The signing ceremony marking the establishment of the joint laboratory took place on 19 June 2026 at the Université Paris-Saclay stand during the VivaTech trade fair.

Led by the SIA3M laboratory (Stratégies d'investigations analytiques: médicaments, biomatériaux, tissus et matrices biologiques) at Université Paris-Saclay, the joint laboratory brings together the complementary expertise of three partners from academia and the innovation ecosystem.

Combining artificial intelligence and physiological data to improve skin analysis

The work carried out within NeuroSkin Lab will aim to correlate neurophysiological signals originating from the brain with measured skin responses. The teams will rely in particular on the multimodal analysis of physiological, emotional and neurocognitive signals, as well as cutaneous, electroencephalographic (EEG) and cardiac data.

By combining advanced data acquisition technologies with artificial intelligence methods dedicated to analysis, interpretation, prediction and simulation, the laboratory will seek to develop models that will provide a better understanding of the link between mental states and skin physiology.

Complementary expertise brought together around a shared goal

The SIA3M laboratory contributes its expertise at the interface of biology, analytical chemistry and biochemistry. Its research focuses in particular on skin and cutaneous investigation methodologies, lipidomics tools and methods, medical devices, as well as interactions between light and cancer.

Eldena AI specialises in artificial intelligence applied to skin biology. The company develops models integrating multimodal and multi-scale data to better model the biological, environmental and temporal factors that shape the skin throughout life.

HABS, founded within the Paris-Saclay ecosystem, develops artificial intelligence systems applied to the decoding of neural dynamics. Its expertise is based on artificial neuroscience and cybersecurity, with technologies enabling the analysis of cognitive and emotional states through brain activity.

Fostering research valorisation and the development of innovative applications

Beyond the development of joint research projects, NeuroSkin Lab will also aim to facilitate research valorisation, develop surface treatment methods applicable to advanced industrial applications, and establish a dedicated team focused on the study and modelling of the brain-skin connection.

Through this collaboration, Université Paris-Saclay, Eldena and HABS aim to contribute to the development of new artificial intelligence-based approaches for skin sciences and the study of brain-skin interactions.
