Emergency Social Aid for Doctoral Students in international cotutelle or international co-supervision

Emergency Social Aid for Doctoral Students for french or foreign doctoral students, in international cotutelle or international co-supervision, is meant to improve the living conditions of these students, so that they can return to favorable conditions for performing their research duties.

Emergency Social Aid for Doctoral Students in international cotutelle or international co-supervision (ASUD) aims to improve the living conditions of french or foreign doctoral students in international co-direction or cotutelle, so that they can return to a favorable environment for carrying out their research tasks.

Social emergencies require appropriate support to help the beneficiaries to stabilize their situation.

Candidates must respond to the eligibility requirements defined in the internal regulations of the Commission Emergency Social Aid for Doctoral Students in international cotutelle or international co-supervision (ASUD).

Candidates are eligible for this program if :

  1. They are administratively registered at the University of Paris-Saclay as doctoral students;
  2. They are not in the fourth year of their thesis at either institution;
  3. An event of force majeure (external, unforeseeable and irresistible);
  4. The unforeseen circumstances have made it impossible for the partner to finance the thesis, or have brought the amount of partner funding below a threshold of €1,200 per month.

Step 1: Submission of applications

Applications for this aid must be submitted in the form of an Emergency Social Aid for Doctoral Students (ASUD) application. The application form is validated each academic year by the ASUD committee.

The application is entered online by the person in charge of supervision and/or by the doctoral student: ASUD form

The following documents must be attached to the application:

  • Certificate of admission to doctoral studies at Université Paris-Saclay
  • International doctoral cotutelle or co-direction agreement (signed by both thesis directors)
  • Motivated statement of support from thesis director and doctoral school, explaining the conditions affecting the financing of the thesis
  • Evidence of insufficient or non-existent funding from the partner due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • A global financing plan for the thesis and supporting documents
  • The last 3 bank statements
  • RIB from a bank in France
  • Declaration of the veracity of the information and documents provided
  • Information on grants applied for from other entities/institutions (name of entity), periods applied for and responses obtained

Step 1: Examination of requests

The request is examined by the administrative services in charge of this call, the Department of Student Life and Equal Opportunity (DVEEC) and the Maison du doctorat (MDD).

The application will be submitted to the ASUD Commission, while preserving the doctoral student's anonymity.

Step 2: Evaluation of applications by the Commission

Candidates eligible for this aid will be presented to the ASUD committee, preserving the anonymity of the doctoral student. The committee will meet as often as necessary, and on demand, when the applicant(s) present(s) their complete file(s).

Members of the ASUD committee:

  •     Deputy Vice-President in charge of doctoral programs;
  •     Director of the Maison du doctorat or her representative;
  •     Vice-President of Student Life;
  •     Director of Student Life and Equal Opportunities or his representative;
  •     Officer in charge of Doctoral Student Life

Step 3: Commission results

Following analysis of the doctoral student's file by the ASUD Commission, an e-mail is sent by the Manager of Doctoral Student Life to each doctoral student, informing them of the Commission's decision in the form of a signed letter of notification. The doctoral student's contact person is copied on this e-mail.

In case of a positive decision, the practical arrangements for payment of the aid are indicated.
In case of an unfavorable decision, the reason for rejection is specified.

Maximal aid amount

Aid is financed by IDEX (initiatives for excellence) and offers a maximum of €3,200 per academic year.

Payment terms

The grant is paid in a single instalment.

Cumulating with other grants or aid

    It is possible to cumulate this aid with other grants or scholarships, on condition that they do not cover the same funding period.

Assistance cannot be renewed during the same academic year.

Application for renewal for the following year

If a candidate wishes to renew his or her application for aid for the following academic year, his or her file will be evaluated by the relevant departments.

This programme is managed by the Department of Student Life and Equal Opportunity (DVEEC) and the Maison du doctorat (MDD).
