The aim of the Molecular Nano- and Biophotonics for Telecommunications and Biotechnologies Master course s is the study of interactions between light and matter in natural or artificial molecular systems (molecules, macromolecules, cells), for both fundamental and applied research purposes. The Master’s objective is to provide students with a multidisciplinary program, based on a joint scientificbackground (molecular photonics), applied to nanobiology and information technologies. Molecular photonics represents the shared basis for lectures delivered in three disciplines: physics (especially optics and electronics), chemistry and biophotonics. The Master offers future researchers and engineers training on the theoretical fundamental and experimental practice of generic technologies for nanobiology and telecommunications; their common characteristic feature is based on the principles of molecular photonics for the development and operation of materials and devices.

This M1+M2 Master’s program relies mainly on the research projects at Institut d’Alembert at ENS Paris Saclay, where lecturers, researchers and engineers will be teaching the course and offering students internships in their laboratories. This program, which is intrinsically linked to the most innovative areas of research in the domain, is expected to become a center for excellence and scientific influence in an area w generating new technologies. The main academic research laboratories associated with the program (lecturers or internships students) are: at ENS Paris Saclay: Institut d’Alembert and its four laboratories; within Université Paris-Saclay: the laboratories and institutes that are attached to the EOE, PhOM, SDV and Chemistry departments (e.g. at Paris 11, IEF, ISMO, ICMMO; at École Polytechnique, LOB; at CNRS: LPN and LAC). Outside Université Paris-Saclay: laboratories that regularly offer Master’s students internships during M2 and for their Master’s thesis; in Paris: Institut Curie, ESPCI, Institut Galilée at Paris 13; Outside the Paris region: Institut Fresnel, Université d'Aix-Marseille, CEA in Grenoble etc.
Social and economic partners
Partnerships with various companies offer internships to Masters students and with CellSpace, an association created in 2014, which is dedicated to developing organs via bioengineering.
This master's programs offer additional services. These programs require specific tuition fees in addition to the mandatory fees.
Tuition fees (the academic year):
- 3 000 € for European (UE) students
- 8 000 € for non European (non-UE) students
Some students may be eligible for a fee waiver.
This program is a major component of the “Molecular Nano- and Biophotonics for Telecommunications and Biotechnologies” Erasmus Mundus Master (five student classes following two years of study: M1+M2) from 2006 to 2011 and renewed from 2013 to 2019. Although the Master’s program has not been funded during the 2-years transition period, it kept the Erasmus Mundus label and was therefore able to operate in that context. Therefore, the Master is organized over two years (M1 + M2), including periods abroad with other European partners (Wroclaw University and Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland and Complutense University in Madrid, Spain). Students who are following the Erasmus Mundus program over two years are therefore awarded several diplomas, provided that they spend at least one semester in a European University. Specific partnerships have also been established with non-European universities: two partnerships in Taiwan (NTU and CCU), Rice University in the USA, the Technion Institute in Israel, and ITMO at Saint Petersburg, Russia.
