Digital Accessibility

What are the best practices for digital accessibility? How and where can you train to implement them? Practical information, e-learning, and other useful links to better understand digital accessibility.

Digital accessibility consists of making online public communication services accessible to everyone, regardless of their situation. It is a legal obligation that applies to websites, intranets, and extranets, as well as software packages, mobile applications, and digital street furniture. The goal is to ensure that all users—including those with disabilities—can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with digital content. Digital accessibility is part of an approach to equality and constitutes a fundamental political and social issue to guarantee equal access to information and online resources for all.

The Paris-Saclay University website has been developed to meet accessibility criteria. The site's accessibility statement specifies its compliance status.

Do you use digital tools in your teaching? Do you create documents or multimedia materials intended for a wide audience? Did you know that 8% of men are colorblind? Did you know that 6 to 8% of people are dyslexic? By adopting a few best practices, you can ensure your document is usable by all your students.

Examples of best practices:

  • Structure your documents (Headings, subheadings)
  • Do not convey information solely through color or formatting (italics, bold, etc.)
  • Add alternative text to images that convey information
  • Use tools to check the accessibility of a document
  • Create simple tables with headers for columns and/or rows
  • Subtitle your videos: By subtitling a video, you not only make it accessible to the hearing impaired, but you also make it easier for everyone to use in noisy conditions or for international students.
