  • Learn to value and undertake, while giving birth to business creation projects. No lectures, all action : you will work on real innovation projects in multidisciplinary teams, and you will meet public and private actors in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Content of this training program

The training programme Doctor’Preneuriales is divied of two training modules of 30-hours : the Doctoral Camp module and then the Valorisation Camp module. Université Paris-Saclay organizes two sessions each years in English and in French. As participant you can follow these two modules in the same year (strongly recommended) or over two consecutive years.

The modules are organized with the support of innovation and business creation professionals from Université Paris-Saclay network and among them:

  • The members of the PEIPS network
  • The SATT Paris-Saclay
  • Paris-Saclay Seed Fund
  • Start in Saclay
  • The partners of the University of Paris-Saclay: industrialists, entrepreneurs, investors, local authorities

Détails of module 1: The Doctoral Camp

Come and try the entrepreneurial adventure, alone or with your team, during this tailor-made seminar for doctoral students!
Through 3 days of intensive training, you will work as a team on projects proposed by the participants, whether or not related to their theses. To meet this challenge, we support you with :
  • An introduction to Design thinking and Lean Startup : you will learn to give a lot of space to experimentation, iteration, research and understanding of customer issues;
  • Access to a FabLab with the best equipment to imagine, design, design and prototype a product;
  • A team of experienced trainers including designers, investors, entrepreneurs and start-ups. These innovation and entrepreneurship professionals will support you in the construction of your project, from design to prototyping.
  • On the last day, your team will pitch your project in front of a jury of professionals. You will present your concept through the "product-market" couple associated with a proposed business model. Would you be the most convincing team?

A 3-day intensive training course for:

  • Imagine, design and prototype;
  • Live a short entrepreneurial experience
  • Meet entrepreneurs, industrialists, investors.
  • Pitch your project in front of our jury in charge of determining the best project.

Sessions 2019-2020 :

  • From 22 to 24 October 2019 at the Design Spot of the University of Paris-Saclay and at WAI Massy - session in French.
  • From March 31 to April 2 at the Design Spot of the University of Paris-Saclay and at WAI Massy - session in English.

Détails of module 2: The Valorisation Camp

In teams, Doctoral students will work for 4,5days on a technology transfert a strategy of a technologies developed in thesis or in another setting by the participants themselves.
This trainging module is run by experts from SATT Paris-Saclay, which provide the following workshops :
  • An introduction to the key stages of technology transfert: Intellectual property (patent law, copyright with a focus on software, design law, trademark law), economic intelligence/economic security, competition market (value proposition, value chain...).
  • Access to various incubators and accelerators in the Paris-Saclay ecosystem, public or private, to meet entrepreneurs and test your strategy with them;
  • On the last day, your team will pitch your project in front of a jury of professionals. You will demonstrate the potential for commercialization of a laboratory result and defend a realistic and relevant commercialization strategy. Would you be the most convincing team?

Skills acquired or implemented in this course in connection with MyDocPro

1) Scientific and technical skills, core business

  • To have methodological (processes) and cultural (actors, network) bases around valorisation and entrepreneurship
  •  Valuing a research project: evaluation of the potential of a result from a research laboratory for market applications and determination of a valorisation strategy.

2) Business management and value creation

  • Lead a project: plan the project to achieve the objectives by integrating strategy, priorities, quality, time and budget constraints; respond effectively and appropriately to change; integrate the project into an evaluation system by putting in place appropriate mechanisms
  • Acquire basic knowledge of intellectual and industrial property, protect results; be aware of the importance of protecting outgoing information; know the advantages and risks of filing a patent
  • Develop a customer approach: use your expertise and technical knowledge to propose solutions adapted to the customer; know how to gather information on customer needs and requests
  • Produce results: know how to transform an idea into innovation; quickly implement the prototyping and testing phases, integrate internal and external customers into these phases; draw conclusions from the first tests; understand the policies and processes for publishing and exploiting research or activity results in its structure.

3) Personal and relational qualities, behavioural skills

  • Demonstrate the ability to acquire knowledge, flexibility and open-mindedness; develop, appropriate and test new ideas
  • Develop a spirit of analysis, criticism and synthesis: clearly formulate a problem, develop solutions, evaluate different scenarios, interpret results
  • Develop the ability to collaborate: recognize the contributions of each individual, know how to be and master communication within a team, with professionals, in a multi-cultural context; collectively produce a coherent and professional document
  • Develop leadership: know how to convince and obtain support for a project; mobilize skills on a project without having the authority to do so; manage human resources without hierarchical links Establish relationships based on trust
  • Strategy: develop an overall vision and position the project within the organization's and domain's strategy for operational deployment.

Valuation of the route

  • The Doctor'Preneuriales Label is awarded to doctoral students who follow the entire course over 1 or 2 years.
  • Possible gateways with doctoral paths or missions outside research activity related to valorization, innovation and business creation.
  • For doctoral students who wish to invest more in entrepreneurship, they can enrol in the Student Entrepreneur Diploma offered by the PEIPS network.
