Responsabilities of Respectives Parties

The doctoral thesis defence procedure was established by Order of May 25, 2016, setting the national training framework and procedures leading to the issue of the national doctoral degree. In accordance with the order, authorisation to defend thesis is granted,

  • by the head of the institution,
  • having sought the opinion of the director of the doctoral school,
  • upon proposal from the thesis supervisor

On the basis of written reports from two reviewers,

  • appointed by the head of the institution,
  • having sought the opinion of the director of the doctoral school,
  • having sought the opinion of the thesis supervisor

The thesis examination panel is then appointed,

  • by the head of the institution,
  • having sought the opinion of the director of the doctoral school,
  • having sought the opinion of the thesis supervisor

The national doctorate degree is awarded upon successful defence of the thesis,

  • by the head of the institution,
  • upon proposal to the same effect by the examination panel.

Signing of documents

With the exception of the degree of doctor, which is signed by the president of Université Paris-Saclay and the University Chancellor (Rector of the Academy of Versailles), and framework agreements or individual of joint international thesis, all acts relating to the PhD defences, is signed by the heads of educational institutions senior members or associated with Université of Paris-Saclay, in particular:

  • approval of defence;
  • the designation of rapporteurs;
  • the designation of the examination panel;
  • the certificate of graduation to doctorate.
  • approval for exceptions to the public nature of the defence (application closed) and the necessary confidentiality agreements;
  • the diploma supplement;
