SONDRA (abbreviation for Supelec Onera NUS DSO Research Alliance) is housed in the Gif-sur-Yvette Campus of Centrale-Supelec, at the heart of the new Université Paris-Saclay.
SONDRA started in 2004 with unclassified basic research in advanced Electromagnetics and Radar domains. Both CentraleSupelec - a prestigious post-graduate engineering school - and ONERA - an aerospace laboratory - are French organizations. ONERA is best described as DSO's equivalent in France. On the other hand, given the past established academic collaborations between Supelec and National University of Singapore (NUS), the two top engineering schools are natural choice partners in this alliance. The overall mission of the laboratory contributes to:
- Build up a strong research team to pursue high quality innovative research,
- Promote cross collaborations and exchanges between all the four parties as well as to leverage on well established French and Singaporean research facilities,
- Open up networking research channels into other relevant French and European research establishments,
- Establish a strong presence in the international scientific community through professional publications, seminars and workshops.
