Creating a high frequency financial database. The objective will be to allow very precise analysis of the rapid dynamics of European financial markets in order to make the European economy more robust.
The BEDOFIH project (European database of high frequency financial data) started by EUROFIDAI (European Institute of financial data - UPS CNRS3390) and supported by the UPMF (Université Pierre Mendès-France), is one of the 36 winning projects for the second wave of the “Equipment of excellence” (Equipex) call for projects, selected by an international jury within the context of future investments.
The BEDOFIH project, headed by Patrice Fontaine, director of EUROFIDAI and professor at the UPMF, is seeking to create a European high-frequency financial database heretofore unpublished, and allow a very precise analysis of the increasingly rapid dynamics of European financial markets. Researchers will be able to rely on historical high-frequency European data, and thus work on the design of more reliable models and the definition of new means of financial regulation. It is for this latter reason that the Financial Market Authority, as well as the General Directorate of the Treasury, have supported the project.
EUROFIDAI’s primary mission is to develop European stock exchange databases that are checked and monitored for academic researchers in finance. Currently, research on European financial markets is hampered by the lack of available data and the difficulty of setting up databases with quality data. EUROFIDAI plays the role of intermediary between private data suppliers and researchers, by negotiating the purchase cost of the data and by monitoring and checking all of the data provided in order to make them usable for research purposes. Through a subscription on its website, EUROFIDAI currently offers various daily databases on the European actions and indices, the exchange rate, mutual funds and securities transactions.
EUROFIDAI is a unit belonging to the CNRS (UPS 3390), created at the initiative of the CNRS, the UPMF and HEC Paris. It is hosted on the premises of the CNRS at 150, Rue de la Chimie in the university area. In addition to UMPF Professor Patrice Fontaine, it is composed of seven personnel from the CNRS and several doctoral students who use the data developed by EUROFIDAI for their dissertation work.
