Research data are:

“[...] factual records (numerical scores, textual records, images and sounds) used as primary sources for scientific research and that are commonly accepted in the scientific community as necessary to validate research findings.” (OECD, 2007) 

This page is dedicated to raising awareness about the the management of research data, explaining the main principles of data management and providing references to support researchers.

Not all research data can be open, and the principle of ‘as open as possible, as closed as necessary’ remains the rule in the research field.
