Following on from partnerships established in the region of Wuhan in China, Université Paris-Saclay (UPSaclay) and Université Evry Val-d’Essonne (UEVE) signed, on 20 December 2017, a tripartite cooperation agreement with Huazhong University of Science and Technology, towards the creation of a French-Chinese Master’s programme in Tissue, Cell and Gene Biotherapies.
A unique UPSaclay French-Chinese Programme in Tissue, Cell and Gene Biotherapies
Within the framework of the Master Tissue, Cell and Gene Biotherapies, exclusively taught in English and operated by UEVE, twenty French and Chinese students will study together for two years, alternatively in Evry and Wuhan. It will also offer a link with industry through company sponsorship. As well as initial training, students will perfect their mastery of the language of the other country in order to develop partnerships over the long run. The Master’s programme also relies on cooperation with the Life Sciences laboratories both of HUST and UEVE. The first students to receive a “Université Paris-Saclay” degree started classes in September 2017.
Revolutionising Precision Medicine and Biotechnologies
This programme relies on the common will of France and China to innovate in order to foster the development of precision medicine and biotechnologies. On the one hand, with the Médecine France génomique 2025 programme launched early 2017, France commits to revolutionising personalised medicine. On the other, in China, precision medicine is one of the key fields of research included in the 13th five-year plan (2016-2020).
Locally, Genopole, a biocluster in Evry dedicated to biotechnologies and genomics, (UPSaclay partner and of which UEVE is a founding member), signed in 2012 a declaration of partnership with Biolake, an economic area of development in biotechnologies in Wuhan, aiming at developing biotechnologies through the creation of bioparks, institutes of research, laboratories, and technological platforms. Active in the same region, UEVE signed a framework agreement with Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), in April 2016, on the implementation of cooperation projects in education and research.
comes from the merger, in 2000, of Huazhong Institute of Technology, Wuhan Urban Construction Institute, and Tongji Medical University. Benefitting from the 211 and 985 programmes launched by the Chinese ministry of education to promote the development of Chinese higher education institutions in the areas of education and research, HUST is renowned in the areas of translational medicine, precision medicine, and big data applied to health.
This UPSaclay-UEVE-HUST programme draws on from the summer schools jointly organised by UEVE and Genopole – two pre-Master’s summer schools in 2016 and 2017 for a dozen Bachelor HUST students as well as a pre-doctoral France Excellence Summer School (July 2017) labelled by the Embassy of France. With these summer schools, students from all over China get to discover the environment and the exceptional potential of UPSaclay research in these fields.
