Thousands of collection points were held to clean up the planet by removing unauthorized garbage dumps, litter and plastics that pollute the environment. In France, 1250 collection points were reported.

For the first time, in the context of its Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility (SDRS) approach, teams from Polytech Paris-Sud joined the event to pick up litter on the campus of Université Paris-Sud.

Thirty-five volunteers from Polytech collected 114 kg of garbage in 2 hours around the Maison de l’Ingénieur and its surroundings.

Once the project was completed, 52 kg of non-recyclable garbage, 23 kg of plastics, 21 kg of paperboard, 10 kg of metal objects and 8 kg of glass had been collected.

The volunteers would like to thank SIOM for lending garbage containers, as well as the Orsay city council for providing gloves and garbage bags. Their valuable support contributed to the success of this project.

All garbage collected in that location will not end up in landfills, and recyclables will be reprocessed.

Polytech Paris-Sud is already planning on participating to the 2019 World Cleanup Day.
