On 11 March, Université Paris-Saclay welcomed representatives and correspondents of the Campus France offices of Russia within the framework of a training programme to offer them an updated and concrete experience of French higher education.

The Campus France offices in the world – key players of academic cooperation

260  Campus France offices and branches are present in 126 countries worldwide. Over 500 people guide students who want to pursue higher education in France. The main mission of Campus France offices is to promote French higher education among students in the countries where they operate. They can inform them about existing academic programmes in France, help them develop their academic project and carry out administrative procedures essential before their departure. The Campus France offices of Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Samara, Ekaterinburg and Novosibirsk were represented for these meetings around the welcome procedures established for international students, and more specifically Russian students, at Université Paris-Saclay (UPSaclay).

Université Paris-Saclay – 2nd French research partner of Russia

UPSaclay and its members have signed several agreements with Russian higher education institutions, including 3 MOUs and 3 Master’s double-degree agreements. In the area of research, UPSaclay is the second French partner of Russia. It is a stakeholder in 6 International Associate Laboratories (Laboratoires Internationaux Associés – LIA), 1 International Research Network (IRN) and 7 Joint Research Projects (Projets de Recherche Conjoints – PRC). These CNRS actions are in a variety of fields of research such as biology, chemistry, life sciences, nuclear physics, and oncology. Since 2015, UPSaclay has welcomed 28 PhD students from Russia, including almost half within the framework of a co-tutelle.

At the Master’s level, Russian students represent the 10th nationality at the university with 91 students admitted last year. Furthermore, the very selective UPSaclay international Master’s scholarships were awarded to 5 Russian students this year, making them the 3rd nationality.

Scholarships of excellence and welcoming procedures at the heart of discussions

The morning of meetings was the opportunity to present the international Master’s scholarships of excellence offered by Université Paris-Saclay. 130 scholarships of excellence are awarded every year following a very rigorous selection process (with automatic renewal in M2 if the M1 is validated) to students admitted to a Master’s programme of the university.

Furthermore, the Campus France representatives discovered in depth the procedures that have been established by UPSaclay in order to welcome, in the best possible conditions, international students and researchers alike. Through a dedicated web portal, the e-International Welcome Office helps internationals with administrative procedures (visa application, social security, bank account, etc.) by offering them a personalised roadmap adjusted to their specific situation (student, researcher, nationality, country of origin, duration of stay…) as well as information on cultural life in Paris and at the university.

For its part, GATE Paris-Saclay (Guichet d’Accueil des Talents Etrangers - Welcome Desk for International Talents) is a platform dedicated to welcoming international students, researchers, employees and collaborators of UPSaclay and its signatories. Within this structure, 3 partners, (UPSaclay, Palaiseau Sub-prefecture and Science Accueil) have mutualised their skills to help in the complex procedures that a foreign student or researcher sometimes has to face when settling in France.

The Campus France representatives from Russia were also able to talk with several Russian students, who were awarded a UPSaclay Master’s scholarship of excellence, and who shared their induction experience at Université Paris-Saclay.
