On Saturday, January 26, at Université Paris-Saclay, CentraleSupélec hosted the 2019 National Day of Cordées de la Réussite, a mentorship program encouraging youth from low-income neighborhoods to pursue prestigious careers. The event was masterfully organized by students from the NGO OSER.
The event brought together more than 300 participants involved in Cordées de la Réussite, including girls and boys from middle and high schools from priority neighborhoods and 14 professional stakeholders.
In her opening speech, the President of Université Paris-Saclay, Sylvie Retailleau, highlighted that all young people can aspire to a brilliant career, regardless of their gender or socioeconomic background, and that following the right academic path is one of the keys to success.
This day-long event, rich in discussions, included a series of conferences and workshops led by professionals with various backgrounds and areas of expertise.
Inspiring conferences and discussions to start considering career options and find one’s way
The program included conferences on selective curriculums and the French grandes écoles system, co-op options, university degrees and short training programs leading to diplomas.
Students were able to gather information through the workshops on a large variety of professions in the following industries:
- Journalism and communications
- Banking and finance
- Digital and new technologies
- Social sciences
- Humanitarian aid
Cordées de la Réussite is a concrete tool for helping students find the career that suits them best. Most of them come from priority neighborhoods, where they may lack the means to access higher education.
A wide variety of participants committed to equal opportunity
The wide variety of stakeholders (universities, grandes écoles, NGOs, high schools, middle schools, professionals and corporate partners) involved in Cordée de la Réussite makes it possible to provide young people with a reinforced, more diverse set of actions, with the goal of having the best tools and conditions for a sustainable and prosperous pursuit of their studies.
The Cordées de la Réussite program encourages young people to engage and succeed in prestigious academic programs. The initiative represents a collective effort towards more equality at school and in society.
