The Master of Science Nuclear Energy aims at training French and foreign high level students in order to meet the current and future needs of the nuclear industry.
Mention
The Master of Science Nuclear Energy is fully taught in English (for both the Master 1 and the five M2 Majors). Applications from both international and national students are most welcome.
The Master of Science Nuclear Energy aims at training French and foreign high level students in order to meet the current and future needs of the nuclear industry: optimization of the performances of the current nuclear reactors, design of the third generation facilities (reactors and fuel cycle facilities), development of advanced processes and fourth generation reactors, operation of the current reactors and facilities, dismantling of end-of-life facilities, reprocessing of spent fuel, nuclear & decommissioning waste management.
Started in 2009, this Master was designed together with the support and a dialogue with the leading actors of this field (EDF, AREVA, CEA) to train young engineers, physicists and chemists to be operational on a wide range of jobs and future researchers starting their careers within a research laboratory. The Master takes advantage of the outstanding teaching and research environment supplied by the well-renowned Université Paris-Sud and the French Engineering “Grandes Ecoles” (CentraleSupélec, 5 ParisTech Schools, and INSTN), whilst the socio-professional actors of this sector (EDF, AREVA, CEA, ANDRA and IRSN) also participate in the teaching. The Master intends to be the Master Nuclear Energy at both a national and an international level.
The Master is organized according to the following schematics:

The Master is integrated into the training program of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology "Innoenergy".
"The EIT Label is a quality seal awarded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) to a KIC educational programme that has been assessed positively by the EIT on the implementation of theEIT Quality Assurance and Learning Enhancement (EIT QALE) system and the application of specific quality criteria with focus on the EIT Overarching Learning Outcomes (EIT OLOs), robust entrepreneurship education, highly integrated, innovative ‘learning‐by‐doing’ curricula, international mobility and outreach."
Educational Objectives
Master 1 is designed to provide a wide knowledge of the various fields related to the nuclear energy and therefore to allow the student to mature its personal professional project leading to one of the five specific paths (Majors) offered in Master 2. Moreover the Master 1 provides also a wide knowledge of the field on Energy offering the opportunity to apply for alternative M2 Majors devoted to the field of Energy outside the Mention Nuclear Energy.
M2 offers a specialization for the various jobs offered in the nuclear industry and scientific institutions: Nuclear Reactor Physics and Engineering; Nuclear Plant Design; Operations of Nuclear plants; Fuel Cycle; Decommissioning and Waste Management.
Professional Opportunities
The Master 1 Nuclear Energy and the five distinct M2 paths (Nuclear Reactor Physics and Engineering; Nuclear Plant Design; Operations of Nuclear plants; Fuel Cycle; Decommissioning and Waste Management) encompass a very wide variety of jobs in the nuclear industry. Four major types of jobs can be identified: (i) Jobs in design and building; (ii) Jobs in operation and maintenance; (iii) Jobs in decommissioning and management of wastes; (iv) Jobs in nuclear fuel cycle. Moreover academic careers in research and development are also targeted in specialized scientific and technological and institutions (CEA, CNRS, Universities) regarding fundamental aspects.
