On Friday June 9th 2017, to mark the 10th anniversary of the European Research Council – ERC, Université Paris-Saclay is organising a conference to present the ERC projects developed at Paris-Saclay and to debate on the major scientific issues of the next 10 years.  This event is open to the scientific community as a whole, students and PhDs, as well as representatives of institutions, industry and innovation. 

The area of Université Paris-Saclay includes 148 grant holders for a total of 165 ERC contracts, making Université Paris-Saclay the 1st French site placed among 3 top-tiers of European poles of research excellence.

Focus of the conference

The conference is aimed at identifying key themes and questions in order to face the major challenges of the 21st Century. It will be the unique opportunity to exchange on the individual experiences of grant holders, experts, doctoral and post-doctoral students and European Affairs officers engaged in the ERC program. Open discussions with the President of the ERC, Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, the heads of institution members of UPSaclay, the representatives of the Ministry for National Education, Higher Education and Research, of ERC NCP, will seek to evaluate the impact of ERC projects for Paris-Saclay, to analyze the resources provided to the scientific community, to identify potential obstacles and barriers that the candidates are faced with and to offer tools and actions to improve the submission and success rates.

ERC grant holders will present their projects and their results during the plenary session, the workshops-debates (around 20 scientific communications) and via posters displayed from the beginning of the conference and presented by the doctoral and post-doctoral members of their teams.



Participating guests: the President of the ERC, Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, the President of Université Paris-Saclay, Gilles Bloch, heads of institution members of Université Paris Saclay, as well as representatives from the Ministry for National Education, Higher Education and Research, the scientific community of Paris-Saclay, and representatives of companies in industry and innovation.

The day is organised in 4 parts:

  • Morning: plenary session / scientific talks
  • Lunch: poster exhibition / presentation by doctoral and post-doctoral students
  • Afternoon: 4 workshop-debates:

1.    At the Interface of Physics and Life Sciences

2.    Electrical, optical and computer engineering

3.    Climate Change and the Environment

4.    SHS ERC Projects at Paris-Saclay: Challenges and Innovation
