Launch of the European University Alliance for Global Health

 The kick-off event of the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH), selected within the framework of the 1st European Universities pilot call for projects launched by the European Commission, took place on Friday 13 September at Université Paris-Saclay, on the campus of CentraleSupélec.

Over 120 people attended the kick-off conference in the presence of Sylvie Retailleau (President of Université Paris-Saclay), Erik Renström (Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lund - Sweden), László Rovo (Rector of the University of Szeged - Hungary), António de Sousa Pereira (Rector of the University of Porto - Portugal), and Bernd Huber (President of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich - Germany).

Joaquim Nassar, Head of the department for Strategy, Expertise and Management of International Cooperation Programmes, within the Delegation for European and International Affairs, reaffirmed the support of the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for the European Universities initiative. The presentation of the European University by the coordinator of the project, Sandrine Lacombe, Vice-President of International Relations of Université Paris-Sud, followed by the Q&A session, gave participants a good overview of the framework and collaboration opportunities offered by EUGLOH.

Topical work sessions on training, research, innovation, campus life and communication, that generated enthusiastic and animated discussions, were organized in the afternoon and the following morning to brainstorm on the establishment of common actions.

Steering committees to follow: the launch of all pilot European Universities organized by the EACEA (Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) on 7 and 8 November in Brussels, and the Annual Summit of the European University Alliance for Global Health in Porto, in March 2020.

Focused on Global Health, the European University will cover a broad range of societal issues such as the Future of medicine, the impact of climate change, or digital and technologies for health and well-being. In order to reach its objectives, and in particular mobility of at least 50% of the students within the Alliance by 2025, the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH) will be innovative, cross-disciplinary and integrated within the ecosystems of research and innovation of the 5 universities
